The volume is divided into four parts: the first on the creation of a new ruling class; the second on the strategy to strengthen imperial power; the third on Theodosius I and the difficult control of the West; the fourth on the new behavioural paradigms at the court of the Theodosians and in particular on the political role of the Augustae.
