Authentic Materials for Enriching Students' Vocabulary in Form 10 in English Lessons

This Paper was written to research authentic materials for enriching students’ vocabulary because of the influence of the English language nowadays. As English is an international language, students need to acquire vocabulary to be able to communicate in different life situations by using the English language. The author explored theory about learning vocabulary and how authentic materials are used for teaching another language. After researching various author works, empirical part of the Paper was done. Authentic materials were used to create activities for English language lessons which were presented to students of form 10 during the authors teaching practice, which took place in Tukums Rainis Gymnasium, to help learners acquire the necessary vocabulary through the designed activities. After the teaching practise, a questionnaire was given to the students to find out their opinion about the activities based on authentic materials. Two English teachers were later interviewed where they were asked to share their experience with teaching vocabulary and using other materials than course books. It was concluded that authentic materials could be used could be used in the English language classroom to practice new vocabulary items and in that way be able to use the specific items later.
