Il testo ripercorre le tappe che hanno condotto alla realizzazione di una delle più vaste opere pubbliche di stampo sanitario realizzate a Palermo nel XIX secolo: l'Ospedale Psichiatrico alla Vignicella. Tramite l’individuazione e l’analisi delle principali fonti ottocentesche e dei primissimi del Novecento, pur confrontandosi con la più recente letteratura periegetica, si fissano alcuni punti fermi rispetto alla progettazione ed esecuzione dei lavori, oltre che, non di meno, in relazione alla concezione scientifica sulle quali erano state fondate. Le immagini d’epoca accompagnano il testo in senso illustrativo e documentario. The text traces the steps that led to the construction of one of the largest public health works built in Palermo in the 19th century. Through the identification and analysis of the main nineteenth-century and early twentieth-century sources, while dealing with the most recent periegetic literature, some fixed points are established with respect to the design and execution of the works, as well as, nevertheless, in relation to scientific conception on which they were founded. The period images accompany the text in an illustrative and documentary sense.
