In my article I present a spectacle of a director who, as one of many theatre artists, was able to connect interests of literature with historiosophy included in works worth to present on a stage. It was an excellent performer of the Polish theatre – Jerzy Jarocki – who died in 2012. The artist was fascinated with Russian history which bloomed during his studies on Russian Academy of Theatre Arts – one of the biggest theatre schools in the world. A few years in Moscow made him aware of complicated past of the Russian empire and let to know not only theatre events of this country. Thus, he mentioned this topic in his spectacles. What is essential, Jarocki, as one of the first directors in Poland, presented Mrożek’s works, and the writer was also interested in turbulent Russian history. One of the last plays of Mrożek is “Love in the Crimea”, written in 1992 and winning a contest in Paris. It needs to be emphasized that Mrożek did not create a pastiche of Russian literature, even though it can be interpreted this way. Not only is the play an ordinary historiosophical allegory, but it also depicts history of Russian culture at the end of the Tsarist era, through Stalinism, to capitalism. Such an idea also finds many supporters. Mrożek described his work as a “tragical comedy in 3 acts” which reveals different faces of Russia – Tsarist, Soviet, Contemporary. It is worth to say that “Love in the Crimea” was the last common work of two magnificent deceased artists – Jerzy Jarocki and Sławomir Mrożek.
