Neste estudo aborda-se a problemática da fundação da antiga cidade romana de Bracara Augusta, levando em consideração o registo arqueológico e sua problemática e significado. À parte da fundação ex novo da cidade ou da preexistência de populações autóctones no local, apresentam-se fortes vestígios indicadores da importância do culto imperial e dinástico que pensamos fortemente associados ao acto simbólico da sua fundação ou "refundação" segundo uma cerimónia semelhante à da "Roma Quadrada" augústea. In this study we approach the issue of the foundation of the old Roman city of Bracara Augusta taking into consideration the archaeological register and its theme and meaning. Apart from the ex novo foundation of the city or the pre-existence of native populations in the place, there are strong remains that indicate the importance of the imperial and dynastic cult. In our opinion these are strongly associated with the act of foundation or "refoundation" according to a ceremony, which is in all very similar to that of the Augustan "Square Rome".
