The influence of students behaviour patterns on their subsequent employment. The economics of education has largely focused upon the respective infuences of education ans abilities on earnings. Nevertheless, although the concept of ability has always concerned inetlligence, research has shown that behaviour variables are very important to explain differences. Indirect evidence on this is also given by the fact that the variance of earnings at each givent level of education is high.This paper attempts to show that within a population of a given level of education who enters into primary labour market, employment status will be linked with the behavioural patterns of individuals.Moreover, these behavioural patterns may be anticipated from the student's behaviour at the university.In order to demonstrate this relationship, we hae built a model representing the behavioural patterns of students along two axes. The first axis, wich can be interpreted as representing submission rules, measures the attendance, the second axis the degree of dynamism.The model shows significant influence of behaviour patterns upon the salary level. Individuals wha behaved in a more independant and dynamic way during their studies generally hold better paying jobs afterwards.It must be noted, nevertheless, that these behavoural patterns are linked with personal attributes like sex, and they may represent a "social habitus" wich may partly explain behaviour at the University and patterns of access to employment.Our model, however, cannot distinguish between supply effects - i.e. the strategy of job search - and demand effects - the process of selection by employers, phenomenons of discrimination, etc.
