Utilizing non-participatory observation data this study focuses on the social dynamics of men’s anonymous sexual encounters with other men in a cinema showing sexually explicit movies. Focus is on how patrons interact both verbally and non-verbally when negotiating sexual activities. In addition to elucidating how same-sex sexual encounters are structured and consummated focus is also provided on how specific communication practices and patterns are correlated with specific sexual activities. Findings and conclusions highlight actions and interactions in a typically overlooked public, yet guarded, environment, and add to the literature on erotic oasis interaction patterns, impersonal sex and sexual communication strategies.
