Regularity properties for quasiminimizers of a $(p,q)$-Dirichlet integral

Using a variational approach we study interior regularity for quasiminimizers of a $(p,q)$-Dirichlet integral, as well as regularity results up to the boundary, in the setting of a metric space equipped with a doubling measure and supporting a Poincar\'{e} inequality. For the interior regularity, we use De Giorgi type conditions to show that quasiminimizers are locally H\"{o}lder continuous and they satisfy Harnack inequality, the strong maximum principle, and Liouville's Theorem. Furthermore, we give a pointwise estimate near a boundary point, as well as a sufficient condition for H\"older continuity and a Wiener type regularity condition for continuity up to the boundary. Density of Lipschitz functions in energy

In this paper, we show that the density in energy of Lipschitz functions in a Sobolev space $N^{1,p}(X)$ holds for all $p\in [1,\infty)$ whenever the space $X$ is complete and separable and the measure is Radon and finite on balls. Emphatically, $p=1$ is allowed. We also give a few corollaries and pose questions for future work. The proof is direct and does not involve the usual flow techniques from prior work. Hardy inequalities and Assouad dimensions

We establish both sufficient and necessary conditions for weighted Hardy inequalities in metric spaces in terms of Assouad (co)dimensions. Our sufficient conditions in the case where the complement is thin are new even in Euclidean spaces, while in the case of a thick complement we give new formulations for previously known sufficient conditions which reveal a natural duality between these two cases. Our necessary conditions are rather straight-forward generalizations from the unweighted case, but together with some examples they indicate the essential sharpness of our results. In addition, we consider the mixed case where the complement may contain both thick and thin parts.

Finitely fibered Rosenthal compacta and trees

We study some topological properties of trees with the interval topology. In particular, we characterize trees which admit a 2-fibered compactification and we present two examples of trees whose one-point compactifications are Rosenthal compact with certain renorming properties of their spaces of continuous functions.

Invariant Markov semigroups on quantum homogeneous spaces

Invariance properties of linear functionals and linear maps on algebras of functions on quantum homogeneous spaces are studied, in particular for the special case of expected coideal *-subalgebras. Several one-to-one correspondences between such invariant functionals are established. Adding a positivity condition, this yields one-to-one correspondences of invariant quantum Markov semigroups acting on expected coideal *-subalgebras and certain convolution semigroups of states on the underlying compact quantum group. Envelopes of open sets and extending holomorphic functions on dual Banach spaces

We investigate certain envelopes of open sets in dual Banach spaces which are related to extending holomorphic functions. We give a variety of examples of absolutely convex sets showing that the extension is in many cases not possible. We also establish connections to the study of iterated weak* sequential closures of convex sets in the dual of separable spaces.

Universal differentiability sets and maximal directional derivatives in Carnot groups

We show that every Carnot group G of step 2 admits a Hausdorff dimension one `universal differentiability set' N such that every real-valued Lipschitz map on G is Pansu differentiable at some point of N. This relies on the fact that existence of a maximal directional derivative of f at a point x implies Pansu differentiability at the same point x. We show that such an implication holds in Carnot groups of step 2 but fails in the Engel group which has step 3.

Locally convex quasi C*-algebras and noncommutative integration

2015

In this paper we continue the analysis undertaken in a series of previous papers on structures arising as completions of C*-algebras under topologies coarser that their norm and we focus our attention on the so-called {\em locally convex quasi C*-algebras}. We show, in particular, that any strongly *-semisimple locally convex quasi C*-algebra $(\X,\Ao)$, can be represented in a class of noncommutative local $L^2$-spaces.
