A Self-Contained Electro-Hydraulic Cylinder: Modeling, Control Design, Simulation and Experimental Validation

2018

Master's thesis Mechatronics MAS500 - University of Agder 2018 In the constant effort to improve the efficiency of hydraulic systems, the pressure drop over hydraulic valves has been one of the major obstacles. In the Self-Contained Electro-Hydraulic Cylinder, the directional valve and the hydraulic power unit have been replaced by a bi-directional axial piston pump and a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor. Actuation of the cylinder is performed by controlling the direction of rotation and the velocity of the motor. Originally the purpose of this project was to: "Design a proper control algorithm for an existing novel selfcontained electro-hydraulic cylinder, implement it on the main boom o…

Microwave-Assisted Synthesis of New Selenazole Derivatives with Antiproliferative Activity

2013

New aryl-hydrazinyl-1,3-selenazole and aroyl-hydrazonyl-1,3-selenazoles were synthesized via Hantzsch type condensation reactions of selenosemicarbazides with α-halogenocarbonyl derivatives, under classical versus microwave heating conditions. Excellent yields and shorter reaction times were obtained under irradiation conditions. The structures of the synthesized compounds were assigned based on spectroscopic data (FT-IR, 1 H-NMR), MS and elemental analysis. Selenazole derivatives were screened for their anti-proliferative effects against two leukemia cell lines (CCRF-CEM and HL60) and three carcinoma cell lines (MDA-MB231, HCT116 and U87MG).

Discovery of 5-benzyl-3-phenyl-4,5-dihydroisoxazoles and 5-benzyl-3-phenyl-1,4,2-dioxazoles as potent firefly luciferase inhibitors.

2013

Luciferase reporter assays are commonly used in high-throughput screening methods. Here, we report new firefly luciferase (FLuc) inhibitors based on 5-benzyl-3-phenyl-4,5-dihydroisoxazoles and 5-benzyl-3-phenyl-1,4,2-dioxazoles, which showed up as "false positives" in a luciferase reporter gene-based assay for nuclear receptor antagonists. The inhibition was shown to be noncompetitive for both natural enzyme substrates (d-luciferin and ATP) and selective to FLuc and proven to arise from a direct interaction between the enzyme and the inhibitor. Of the 63 evaluated compounds, 28 showed significantly better inhibition potency than the well-known inhibitor resveratrol (IC(50) = 59 nM), with fi…

Bile acid–cysteamine conjugates: Structural properties, gelation, and toxicity evaluation

2011

Abstract Design, synthesis, and characterization of six novel bile acid–cysteamine conjugates together with investigation of their structural studies, gelation properties, and preliminary toxicity evaluation, are reported. Solid state properties of selected compounds were studied by means of X-ray diffraction and 13C CPMAS NMR spectroscopy. N-(2-thioethyl)-3α,7α,12α-trihydroxy-5β-cholan-24-amide was shown to exhibit (pseudo)polymorphism, and a single crystal structure of its non-stoichiometric hydrate is reported herein. Cholyl and dehydrocholyl derivatives bearing three functionalities in their steroidal backbone were shown to undergo self-assembly leading to gelation in certain organic so…

True performance of market timing with simple moving average

2014

Masteroppgave i økonomi og administrasjon – Universitetet i Agder 2014 In this paper we investigate the performance of the market timing strategy basedon Simple Moving Average (SMA), looking at its performance when tested both inand out-of-sample. We examine whether or not its popularity is a result of theinherent flaws of in-sample testing or if its based on actual superiority. We find thatthe SMA strategy outperforms the market only when tested in-sample, and thatthere are too many uncertain factors to be able to conclude that it is effective whentested out-of-sample. As such, we do not find evidence of the SMA strategyconflicting with the efficient market hypothesis.

Corporate social responsibility in the supply chain : an assessment of Norwegian textile companies' motivation, use of standards and external services

2013

Masteroppgave i økonomi og administrasjon - Universitetet i Agder 200 Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has since the last 60 years developed and increased its importance within companies. Within companies CSR can be used as a strategy. The literature of CSR is limited but existing theories have different viewpoints of CSR and how it should be used by companies in business. Today companies’ motivation and use of different standards related to CSR is an important and much debated theme in media and organizations. This thesis discovers how different companies within the clothing industry are motivated for their CSR and what kind of standards they have implemented. In this study case studi…

Website localization towards the Norwegian market : an analysis of American firm´s websites

2011

Masteroppgave i økonomi og administrasjon - Universitetet i Agder 2011 - Masteroppgave i informasjonssystemer- Universitetet i Agder 2011 This study is the first involving international firms and the localization of firms' websites for a Norwegian audience. In order to give the reader a better understanding of the topic, we first conducted a literature review where we identified five key themes related to website localization: standardization versus localization, localization website design characteristics, website localization measurement and cultural depictions in websites. The research method used in this thesis is a quantitative analysis of data collected via the content analysis of web…

Developing a supplier performance analysis model : case study: Aker MH supplier performance

2012

Masteroppgave i økonomi og administrasjon - Universitetet i Agder 2012 This master thesis focuses on the use Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) for measuring supplier performance. Goal of the study is to apply a mathematical model for supplier performance measurement which would be able to handle multi-criteria. To test the model in practice, cooperation was established with case study firm (Aker Maritime Hydraulics), which is providing drilling engineering solutions to Oil & Gas industry. Proposing the model for measuring performance of existing suppliers not only demonstrates how DEA can be applied, but also sets the grounds for supplier performance improvement process in a case study firm. …

Corporate governance and determinants that explain CEO compensation in Indonesia

2011

Masteroppgave i økonomi og administrasjon - Universitetet i Agder 2011 This thesis examines determinants that can help explain CEO remuneration in an Asian emerging market, focusing on Indonesia. Our sample consists of 46 Indonesian stock listed companies, and we use data from recently expanded rules on disclosure to analyze the level and structure of compensation for the CEO - domestically known as the president director. Looking at corporate governance arrangements, firm performance, and CEO characteristics, our empirical evidence reveals a significant positive relationship between firm size and CEO pay. No further significant relationships are found between CEO compensation and our remai…

Determinants of CEO compensation in Pakistan from 2007 to 2009

2010

Masteroppgave i økonomi og administrasjon - Universitetet i Agder 2010 Most studies of the determinants of executive compensation are based on the experience of developed countries. This paper examines the relationship between firm size, firm performance and board composition on CEO compensation, in the context of an emerging and developing economy of Pakistan. Data for 83 listed firms from Lahore stock exchange, Pakistan has been used for 2007 to 2009. The findings show that firm size is one of the major determining factors of CEO compensation rather than performance. A family recruited CEO has a negative and significant effect upon the CEO compensation. In this study we also look at a num…
