An Influence of Fructan Containing Concentrate from Jerusalem Artichoke Tubers on the Development of Probiotic Dairy Starters on Milk and Oat-based S…

2007

Supplementation of milk and oat hydrolysate containing medium with Jerusalem artichoke concentrate (JAC) and subsequent fermentation with probiotic dairy starters resulted in substantial stimulation of probiotics Bifidobacterium lactis and Lactobacillus acidophilus as well as yogurt starter culture Lactobacillus bulgaricus development and acidification rate. The strain-specific responses of the general yogurt cultures, as well as probiotics to the addition of JAC, should be considered to achieve optimal composition of probiotic strains and conformable fermentation conditions. JAC is suggested to be perspective prebiotic additive for fermented synbiotic milks or oat-hydrolysate-based product…

Sepsis in head and neck cancer patients treated with chemotherapy and radiation: literature review and consensus

2015

Abstract: The reporting of infection/sepsis in chemo/radiation-treated head and neck cancer patients is sparse and the problem is underestimated. A multidisciplinary group of head and neck cancer specialists from Italy met with the aim of reaching a consensus on a clinical definition and management of infections and sepsis. The Delphi appropriateness method was used for this consensus. External expert reviewers then evaluated the conclusions carefully according to their area of expertise. The paper contains seven clusters of statements about the clinical definition and management of infections and sepsis in head and neck cancer patients, which had a consensus. Furthermore, it offers a revie…

Lentils enhance probiotic growth in yogurt and provide added benefit of antioxidant protection

2013

Abstract We evaluated the antioxidant potential of lentil polysaccharides in stimulating the growth of probiotic bacteria in yogurt. Microbial counts, pH and total titratable acidity (TTA) were measured in yogurt samples containing starter cultures with or without probiotic bacteria, supplemented with whole ground green lentils. Additionally, the antioxidant potential of polysaccharides extracted from green, red, and dehulled red lentils were measured by oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) assay. Results demonstrate that green lentils selectively enhanced the number of probiotic bacteria in yogurt in the initial stages of storage and maintained overall microbial counts (starter cultur…

Trattamento infiltrativo e riabilitativo nella coxartrosi: risultati a lungo termine

2012

Biocatalyzed acidolysis of soybean oil triacylglycerols to increase oleic acid content

2004

Lipase catalyzed acidolysis of triacylglycerols (TAG) of soybean oil with oleic acid in organic solvent was studied; immobilized lipase from Rhizomucor miehei was used and the effects of reaction time, incubation temperature and enzyme load on TAG total and positional fatty acid (FA) percentage compositions were investigated. The results show that oleic acid incorporation was high after 24 and 48 h, while after 72 h a lower level of oleic acid in TAG was observed. Moreover, for the reactions carried out at 30 and 40 degrees C, it was observed that the oleic acid level was about 46.5% while ligtly higher values (about 49%) were observed at 50 degrees C; however, under this last condition, th…

Antibacterial effect of a new haemostatic agent on oral microorganisms

2011

Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial effect of a newly developed haemostatic agent Ankaferd Blood Stopper® (ABS) and Ferric Sulphate (FS) on various oral microorganisms. Study design: Bacterial strains were freshly incubated in their specific broth media. For each of the strains, 3 wells per each agent, with a 5 mm diameter were made under aseptic conditions in the specific agar media. Then they were filled with a test agents or 0.2% chlorhexidine digluconate (CHX) (control group). After 24h and 48h incubation periods, inhibition zones were measured. Results: ABS showed antibacterial effect on all test microorganisms except Lactobacillus acidophilus and La…
