A Proposal to estimate the roaming–dog Total in an urban area through a PPSWOR spatial sampling with sample size greater than two

Settore SECS-S/05 - Statistica SocialeDogs roaming in urban areas constitute an issue for public order hygiene and health. Proper planning of actions for health and security control and allocation of financial funds require the knowledge of the roaming–dog–population size in a given urban area. Unfortunately a reliable statistical procedure aimed to measure such population is not available yet in literature. This paper presents a simple reproducible survey sampling procedure to estimate the number of roaming dogs in an urban area through the description of a real study carried out on a restricted area of the city of Palermo in southern Italy. A sample of areas is drawn by means of a drawn–by–drawn spatial sampling with probabilities proportional to size and without replacement (PPSWOR). As inclusion probabilities are not available in closed form they are estimated by Monte Carlo approach which is of simple implementation and permits design–based variance estimation even when first–order inclusion probabilities are unknown.

Calibrating a microscopic traffic simulation model for roundabouts using genetic algorithms

The paper introduces a methodological approach based on genetic algorithms to calibrate microscopic traffic simulation models. The specific objective is to test an automated procedure utilizing genetic algorithms for assigning the most appropriate values to driver and vehicle parameters in AIMSUN. The genetic algorithm tool in MATLAB® and AIMSUN micro-simulation software were used. A subroutine in Python implemented the automatic interaction of AIMSUN with MATLAB®. Summary ― The work presents the results of the bio-archaeological analyzes carried out on human skeletal remains found in fourteen burials of Medieval chronology at the Archaeological Park of Valle dei Templi in Agrigentum (Sicily). The aim of the work was the acquisition of the information necessary for the reconstruction of the biological profile of each individual throught the determination of sex the estimate of the biological age at death the estimate of height and the evaluation of pathologies and markers of occupational stress through current anthropological diagnostic methodologies and techniques. Althought the poor state of conservation of some individuals has not allowed their whole anthropological characterization the investigations have highlighted the heterogeneity relating to the age groups and have allowed us to ascertain the presence of pathological alterations in subjects of mature age sometimes of unknown etiology such as DISH (Diffuse Idiopathic Hyperostosis). Il ruolo del white paper sulle offerte al pubblico di cripto-attività alla luce della proposta MiCA

La proposta MiCA, nel regolare il white paper sulle offerte di crypto-assets, sembra tenere in considerazione i benefici e i limiti dei sistemi di voluntary e di mandatory disclosure, non optando integralmente né per il primo, né per il secondo. In quest’ottica, se può condividersi l’approccio regolamentare diretto a graduare, a seconda della tipologia di token offerto, sia il contenuto che l’assoggettamento del documento a mera notifica o ad approvazione ex ante da parte dell’Autorità competente, dubbi sorgono in ordine all’indistinta allocazione dell’onere della prova in capo all’oblato, nei casi di violazione della disciplina del relativo white paper.

The MiCa proposal in the regular white paper on crypto-assets offerings seems to take into account the benefits and limitations of voluntary and mandatory disclosure systems not opting for either the former or the latter in full. On one hand one can agree with the regulatory approach aimed at adapting the content of the white paper to the type of token offered and at making the white paper either subject to mere notification or to the approval by the competent Authority depending on the asset offered. Our group has long undertaken the study of the effects of ECM molecules on the behavior of cancer cells in vitro. Among the studied molecules the decorin was found to exert a non-permissive effect on the growth and motility of the transfected tumor cells. The decorin belongs to the family of small leucine-rich proteoglycans (SLRP) and is involved physiologically in the fibrillogenesis of collagen. In the last few year a new anti-oncogenic role has been proposed for decorin1. This study aimed to implement the knowledge on the effects of ectopic decorin on breast cancer cells using as a reference point the results already achieved by our research group2 on the experimental model format. By breast cancer cell line 8701-BC and its transfected clone DEC-C2. The extension of the proteomic analysis combined with the mass spectrometry allowed to triplicate the number of identified proteins in our model. Among the newly identified proteins were members of the classes of metabolic enzymes S100 family and cell motility proteins which revealed a net decrease in the decorin transfected cells. Of considerable importance is the observation that these classes of proteins are the most involved in metastatic progression. These results confirm and reinforce the anti-oncogenic role hypothesized for decorin. The work was co-funded by the Italian 5x1000 to COBS.DECORIN

The pandemic crisis has accelerated the diffusion of learning environments characterized by the intensive use of technology. This novelty represents a transversal objective of the professionalization of the university teacher with a particular declination on the pedagogical-didactic-evaluation side as a strategic issue for the development of higher education. This paper presents the results of research conducted with 119 newly recruited university teachers and 20 Department Directors. The aim of the research was on the one hand to detect the perception of newly hired teachers related to their teaching metacognitive and evaluative skills with reference to distance learning to highlight specific characteristics that could have encouraged or hindered adaptation to this new condition. On the other hand through the qualitative research the aim has been to penetrate in depth the challenges posed by the digital revolution at University by carrying out 20 interviews with privileged witnesses who represent on the national scene agents of institutional change. The paper analyses the relationship between the criminal treatment of 'soft' drugs and the fight against organised crime related to drug trafficking with regard to European law international law and national criminal law of some EU countries (Spain Portugal Greece Germany and Italy). Following an integrated approach the analysis is carried on taking into consideration the phenomenology of trafficking and an assessment of the initial effects that the anti-prohibitionist reforms of some North and South American jurisdictions have produced on the illicit market. The projects prepared for "Palermo South-East" are the result of a Graduate Laboratory structured through meetings seminars specialist communications critical exhibitions which - in a shared strategy - saw each student elaborate their work in comparison with others actors of the same Laboratory. The research on "urban projects" was set so that each graduating student was made aware of the projects carried out in the same geographical area by the colleagues who had preceded it so as to be able to operate in continuity and contribute to formulating a unitary reasoning in which each project constituted continuation verification or even variant of the previous ones. These coordinated works have pursued two fundamental objectives: the strengthening of infrastructures and the establishment of specialized public buildings with superior functions aimed at requalifying and regenerating various critical situations with particular attention to the relationship between context and life scenarios. Thus each designer while dealing with a main functional program simultaneously deals with various issues such as the rationalization of the road system the redevelopment of existing buildings the design and refunctionalization of urban services (for example the transformed Central Station in the hotel or the project of a great Mosque)several degree theses have addressed as the main theme or as a question in the background the design of a new bed for the Oreto river and the relative establishment of a park facing it. Questo articolo intende contribuire al dibattito sulla legittimità giuridica di tale misura, esaminando i recenti sviluppi della legislazione in materia e le sue applicazioni in Belgio, Francia, Regno Unito e Italia.

The so-called "foreign fighters" phenomenon and the occurrence of terrorist attacks in some EU countries have raised the question of the deprivation of citizenship as a measure of contrast and protection of public security. This article aims to contribute to the debate on the legal legitimacy of that measure by examining recent developments of the legislation on the subject and its applications in Belgium France Uk and Italy.

The study aims to reflect on the training of future primary school teachers by starting from the use of the e-portfolio as an innovative tool to promote the acquisition of reflective and self-evaluation competence within the flipped classroom. The research involved 154 students of Primary Education Master’s Degree Course of the University of Palermo attending to the Docimology course during the academic year 2020/2021. This paper presents the theoretical assumptions objectives and operating methods of a path that made the use of the e-portfolio in flipped classroom to promote the development of docimological skills in higher education.
