A fractional-order model for aging materials: An application to concrete

Abstract In this paper, the hereditariness of aging materials is modeled within the framework of fractional calculus of variable order. A relevant application is made for the long-term behavior of concrete, for which the creep function is evaluated with the aid of Model B3. The corresponding relaxation function is derived through the Volterra iterated kernels and a comparison with the numerically-obtained relaxation function of Model B3 is also reported. The proposed fractional hereditary aging model (FHAM) for concretes leads to a relaxation function that fully agrees with the well-established Model B3. AbstractTranscriptional regulation of DNA repair is of outmost importance for the restoration of DNA integrity upon genotoxic stress. Here we report that the potent environmental carcinogen benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P) activates a cellular DNA damage response resulting in transcriptional repression of mismatch repair (MMR) genes (MSH2, MSH6, EXO1) and of RAD51, the central homologous recombination repair (HR) component, ultimately leading to downregulation of MMR and HR. B[a]P-induced gene repression is caused by abrogated E2F1 signalling. Background Clinical studies suggest people with Alzheimer's disease (AD) have altered pain sensitivity. Experimental pain research is equivocal. Objective Conduct a meta-analysis to investigate if people with AD have altered pain sensitivity compared to healthy controls (HCs). Methods Three authors searched electronic databases from inception till November 2015 for experimental pain studies in AD vs. HCs. Outcome measures were pain threshold, tolerance, pain ratings, heart rate response to noxious stimuli and the Facial Action Coding System (FACS). Abstract In this paper, the effect of salt-fog exposition on the mechanical behavior of sandwich panels having cork agglomerate core was investigated. In particular, the aim of this research work is to assess the shield function of unidirectional basalt and E-glass reinforced polymer on the aging and failure mechanism of the core when such class of material are destined to operate in hostile environments (e.g., marine environment).
