Ambient modal identification, also known as Operational Modal Analysis (OMA), aims to identify the modal properties of a structure based on vibration data collected when the structure is under its operating conditions, i.e., no initial excitation or known artificial excitation. This procedure for testing and/or monitoring historic buildings, is particularly attractive for civil engineers concerned with the safety of complex historic structures. Strength and ductility of confined concrete columns under axial load and biaxial bending

The behaviour of prismatic reinforced concrete columns under increasing eccentric compression load was experimentally investigated and analytically modelled. Columns with distributed longitudinal reinforcement and closely spaced transverse reinforcement were tested up to failure, considering different values and directions of eccentricity. Preliminary tests were carried out under concentric compression in order to validate the choice of the stress-strain laws adopted for the confined concrete and the longitudinal steel bars in compression. Results of experimental tests on welded joints of steel truss of encased composite steel-concrete beams are presented. The welding of the inclined web bars to top bars, both of steel type B450C, and to bottom steel plate, the latter made of S355 steel type, are tested. Two analytical expressions for prediction of welding strength are derived: the one based on a resistance criterion and the other based on a limit domain of the welding section. Guidelines for choosing the effective dimensions of the fillet weld, necessary to determine the strength, are provided. An experimental campaign of three-point bending tests on specimens of Hybrid Steel Trussed Concrete Beams (HSTCBs) is presented. The scope of the experiments is the evaluation of the shear strength in the structural typology object of study. At the beginning of The Concept of Law Hart suggests a mistaken assimilation between conduct that is ‘non-optional’ and conduct that is ‘obligatory’ (i.e,. conduct that is either coerced or subject to an obligation). The focus will be in particular on (1) Alf Ross’s legal realism and his neo-positivistic approach to legal science; (2) Norberto Bobbio and the Italian analytical legal philosophical school, which firmly tie legal science to language analysis; (3) Herbert Hart and the analytical philosophy of ordinary language, and, eventually, (4) Ronald Dworkin and the interpretative turn.

The article examines Celano's conception of the Rule of Law in order to underline its limits. It identifies the main reason for its limits in the use of the methodology of analytical jurisprudence, that is not able to look at the law as it is: a differentiated phenomenon. The article proposes to look at contemporary law and to rethink the idea of the rule of law accordingly.

Abstract The prehistoric peopling of Sicily has left scattered traces of symbolic activities through well-known rock art expressions in caves and rock shelters located all around the island (among the most significant, the sites of Addaura, Racchio and Genovese). A peculiar phenomenon is the incision of linear signs, often grouped on the same rocky walls, hidden in fissures or placed at the entrance of the underground chambers of caves. In this report, we investigate a sample of these graphic expressions from a spatial and technical point of view.
