Characterization of non-polar ZnO layers with positron annihilation spectroscopy

2008

We applied positron annihilation spectroscopy to study the effect of growth polarity on the vacancy defects in ZnO grown by metal-organic vapor phase deposition on sapphire. Both c-plane and a-plane ZnO layers were measured, and Zn vacancies were identified as the dominant defects detected by positrons. The results are qualitatively similar to those of earlier experiments in GaN. The Zn vacancy concentration decreases in c-plane ZnO by almost one order of magnitude (from high 10 cm−3 to low 10 cm−3) when the layer thickness is increased from 0.5 to 2 μm. Interestingly, in a-plane ZnO the Zn vacancy concentration is constant at a level of about 2×10 cm−3 in all the samples with thicknesses v…

Positron Annihilation in Medical Substances of Insulin

2005

Positrons lifetimes were measured in medical substances of insulin (human and animal), differing as far as the degree of purity and time of their activity in the organism are concerned. In all of the cases the spectrum of positron lifetime was distributed into three components, with the long-life component ranging from 1.8 to 2.08 ns and the intensity taking on values from 18 to 24%. Making use of Tao–Eldrup model, the average radius of the free volume, in which o-Ps annihilated, and the degree of filling in the volume were determined. It was found that the value of the long-life component for human insulin is higher than that of animal insulin. Moreover, the value of this component clearly…

Pseudo-Bosons from Landau Levels

2010

We construct examples of pseudo-bosons in two dimensions arising from the Hamiltonian for the Landau levels. We also prove a no-go result showing that non-linear combinations of bosonic creation and annihilation operators cannot give rise to pseudo-bosons.

Construction of pseudo-bosons systems

2010

In a recent paper we have considered an explicit model of a PT-symmetric system based on a modification of the canonical commutation relation. We have introduced the so-called {\em pseudo-bosons}, and the role of Riesz bases in this context has been analyzed in detail. In this paper we consider a general construction of pseudo-bosons based on an explicit {coordinate-representation}, extending what is usually done in ordinary supersymmetric quantum mechanics. We also discuss an example arising from a linear modification of standard creation and annihilation operators, and we analyze its connection with coherent states.

Study of thee+e−→K+K−reaction in the energy range from 2.6 to 8.0 GeV

2015

The e^+e^− → K^+K^− cross section and charged-kaon electromagnetic form factor are measured in the e^+e^− center-of-mass energy range (E) from 2.6 to 8.0 GeV using the initial-state radiation technique with an undetected photon. The study is performed using 469  fb^(−1) of data collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II2 e^+e^− collider at center-of-mass energies near 10.6 GeV. The form factor is found to decrease with energy faster than 1/E^2 and approaches the asymptotic QCD prediction. Production of the K^+K^− final state through the J/ψ and ψ(2S) intermediate states is observed. The results for the kaon form factor are used together with data from other experiments to perform a mod…

Observation of an Anomalous Line Shape of theη′π+π−Mass Spectrum near thepp¯Mass Threshold inJ/ψ→γη′π+π−

2016

Using 1.09 x 10(9) J/psi events collected by the BESIII experiment in 2012, we study the J / psi -> gamma eta'pi(+)pi(-) process and observe a significant abrupt change in the slope of the eta'pi(+)pi(-) invariant mass distribution at the proton-antiproton (p (p) over bar) mass threshold. We use two models to characterize the eta'pi(+)pi(-) line shape around 1.85 GeV/c(2): one that explicitly incorporates the opening of a decay threshold in the mass spectrum (Flatte formula), and another that is the coherent sum of two resonant amplitudes. Both fits show almost equally good agreement with data, and suggest the existence of either a broad state around 1.85 GeV/c(2) with strong couplings to t…

A measurement of the QCD colour factors and a limit on the light gluino

1997

Using data collected from 1992 to 1995 with the ALEPH detector at LEP, a measurement of the colour factor ratios C-A/C-F and T-F/C-F and the strong coupling constant = C-F alpha(s), (M-Z)/(2 pi) has been performed by fitting theoretical predictions simultaneously to the measured differential two-jet rate and angular distributions in four-jet events. The result is found to be in excellent agreement with QCD. C-A/C-F = 2.20 +/- 0.09 (stat) +/- 0.13 (syst), T-F/C-F = 0.29 +/- 0.05 (stat) +/- 0.06 (syst). Fixing C-A/C-F and T-F/C-F to the QCD values permits a determination of alpha(s) (M-Z) and n(f), the number of active flavours. With this measurement the existence of a gluino with mass below …

Determination of the form factors for the decayB0→D*−l+νland of the CKM matrix element|Vcb|

2008

We present a combined measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element vertical bar V-cb vertical bar and of the parameters rho(2), R-1(1), and R-2(1), which fully characterize the form factors for the B-0 -> D*(-)center dot(+)nu(center dot) decay in the framework of heavy-quark effective field theory. The results, based on a selected sample of about 52 800 B-0 -> D*(-)center dot(+)nu(center dot) decays, recorded by the BABAR detector, are rho(2)=1.157 +/- 0.094 +/- 0.027, R-1(1)=1.327 +/- 0.131 +/- 0.043, R-2(1)=0.859 +/- 0.077 +/- 0.021, and F(1)vertical bar V-cb vertical bar=(34.7 +/- 0.4 +/- 1.0)x10(-3). The first error is the statistical and the second is the systematic unce…

MEASUREMENT OF ALPHA(S) FROM SCALING VIOLATIONS IN FRAGMENTATION FUNCTIONS IN E(+)E(-) ANNIHILATION

1995

A study of scaling violations in fragmentation functions performed by the ALEPH collaboration at LEP is presented. Data samples enriched in uds, c, b and gluon jets, respectively, together with measurements of the longitudinal and transverse inclusive cross sections are used to extract the fragmentation function for the gluon and for each flavour. The measurements are compared to data from experiments at energies between 22 GeV and 91 GeV and scaling violations consistent with QCD predictions are observed. From this, a measurement of the strong coupling constant alpha(s) (M(z)) = 0.126 +/- 0.009 is obtained.
