Three solutions for parametric problems with nonhomogeneous (a,2)-type differential operators and reaction terms sublinear at zero

Abstract We consider parametric Dirichlet problems driven by the sum of a Laplacian and a nonhomogeneous differential operator ( ( a , 2 ) -type equation) and with a reaction term which exhibits arbitrary polynomial growth and a nonlinear dependence on the parameter. We prove the existence of three distinct nontrivial smooth solutions for small values of the parameter, providing sign information for them: one is positive, one is negative and the third one is nodal.

Jacobian-free approximate solvers for hyperbolic systems: Application to relativistic magnetohydrodynamics

Abstract We present recent advances in PVM (Polynomial Viscosity Matrix) methods based on internal approximations to the absolute value function, and compare them with Chebyshev-based PVM solvers. These solvers only require a bound on the maximum wave speed, so no spectral decomposition is needed. Another important feature of the proposed methods is that they are suitable to be written in Jacobian-free form, in which only evaluations of the physical flux are used. This is particularly interesting when considering systems for which the Jacobians involve complex expressions, e.g., the relativistic magnetohydrodynamics (RMHD) equations. Olive mill wastewaters decontamination based on organo-nano-clay composites

Abstract Green composites for environmental applications were successfully prepared by intercalation of the biosurfactant Quillaja saponin onto montmorillonite mineral clay on varying pH and surfactant/clay ratio. Equilibrium adsorption isotherms were constructed and the system was characterized by performing TGA and XRD analyses. The efficiency of the surfactant-modified clay in the removal of the organic content present in olive mill wastewaters (OMW) was evaluated by means of spectrophotometric measurements. AN HYPERBOLIC-PARABOLIC PREDATOR-PREY MODEL INVOLVING A VOLE POPULATION STRUCTURED IN AGE

Abstract We prove existence and stability of entropy solutions for a predator-prey system consisting of an hyperbolic equation for predators and a parabolic-hyperbolic equation for preys. The preys' equation, which represents the evolution of a population of voles as in [2] , depends on time, t, age, a, and on a 2-dimensional space variable x, and it is supplemented by a nonlocal boundary condition at a = 0 . The analysis of poverty in Italy. A fuzzy dynamic approach

The commonly used criterion to sharply separate the poor from the non poor on the basis of a poverty threshold appears to be too severe in comparison with the nature of poverty. The latter is multidimensional in its components (domain) and continue in its states (codomain). Moreover an income-based poverty line allows for a remarkable number of spurious transitions below and over that line, which do not correspond to true variations in household’s standard of living. This study starts from the analysis of common (with crisp states) transition matrices; then a fuzzy multidimensional poverty indicator is built. A microwave power module (MPM), which is a hybrid combination of a solid-state power amplifier (SSPA) as a driver and a traveling-wave tube amplifier (TWT) as the final high power stage, is a high-power device largely used for radar applications. A gain equalizer is often required to flatten the TWT output power gain owing to its big gain fluctuations over the operating frequency range. The algebra of symmetric analytic functions on L∞

We consider the algebra of holomorphic functions on L∞ that are symmetric, i.e. that are invariant under composition of the variable with any measure-preserving bijection of [0, 1]. Its spectrum is identified with the collection of scalar sequences such that is bounded and turns to be separable. All this follows from our main result that the subalgebra of symmetric polynomials on L∞ has a natural algebraic basis.

We consider a new class of open covers and classes of spaces defined from them, called "iota spaces". We explore their relationship with epsilon-spaces (that is, spaces having all finite powers Lindelof) and countable network weight. An example of a hereditarily epsilon-space whose square is not hereditarily Lindelof is provided.

Facebook’s Emotional Contagion Experiment as a Challenge to Research Ethics

This article analyzes the ethical discussion focusing on the Facebook emotional contagion experiment published by the <em>Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences</em> in 2014. The massive-scale experiment manipulated the News Feeds of a large amount of Facebook users and was successful in proving that emotional contagion happens also in online environments. This paper examines how a family business system serves as the ideological arena of three cultural forces—entrepreneurialism, managerialism, and paternalism—that are, to a great extent, contesting ideologies based on different rationalities, or schools of thought.
