Distortion of quasiconformal maps in terms of the quasihyperbolic metric

Abstract We extend a theorem of Gehring and Osgood from 1979–relating to the distortion of the quasihyperbolic metric by a quasiconformal mapping between Euclidean domains–to the setting of metric measure spaces of Q -bounded geometry. When the underlying target space is bounded, we require that the boundary of the image has at least two points. We show that even in the manifold setting, this additional assumption is necessary.

International audience; The elemental distribution of self-organized In-rich InxGa1-xN nanowires grown by plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy has been investigated using three different techniques with spatial resolution on the nanoscale. Two-dimensional images and elemental profiles of single nanowires obtained by x-ray fluorescence and energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, respectively, have revealed a radial gradient in the alloy composition of each individual nanowire. The structural, vibrational and electronic properties of the compressed beta-Sb2O3 polymorph, a.k.a. mineral valentinite, have been investigated in a joint experimental and theoretical study up to 23 GPa. The compressibility of the lattice parameters, unit-cell volume and polyhedral unit volume as well as the behaviour of its Raman- and IR-active modes under compression have been interpreted on the basis of ab initio theoretical simulations. International audience; This paper presents a new development of rapid prototyping tools for system design based on data-flow specifications. In this context, the efficiency of tools for the automatic translation from the data-flow programs to C and/or HDL are assessed by means of two design cases. The paper also introduces the new concept of the automatic synthesis of interfaces. Such generic interfaces are implemented by using an embedded microprocessor, which can support a large variety of interfaces already available as native IP libraries in the case of FPGA. A Rayleigh-Ritz approach for the analysis of buckling and post-buckling behavior of cracked composite stiffened plates is presented. The structure is modeled as the assembly of plate elements modeled by the first order shear deformation theory and taking geometric nonlinearities into account through the von Karman’s theory assumptions. Abstract This work presents original investigations carried out to improve the activated self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) process in the Fe–Si system: different ignition modes are tested (volume heating as opposed to a local ignition source), and the use of additive is considered in order to enhance the SHS type reactivity in the Fe–Si system. When 20 wt.% of KNO 3 is added to the reactive mixture, the fast (>20 mm s −1 ), stable and self-sustaining combustion reaction produces a very fine FeSi + α-FeSi 2 structure. Abstract The self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (S.H.S.) process, which is promising for the fabrication of ceramic materials, was chosen to elaborate titanium carbonitride materials. The influence of parameters such as nitrogen gas pressure and carbon ratio on the microstructure was studied. A single phase product of Ti(C,N) is obtained for a carbon ratio under 15 at.% and a nitrogen pressure of 36 MPa. The increase of the carbon ratio corresponds to a decrease of the maximum temperature reached during the synthesis. Robin problems with general potential and double resonance

Abstract We consider a semilinear elliptic problem with Robin boundary condition and an indefinite and unbounded potential. The reaction term is a Caratheodory function exhibiting linear growth near ± ∞ . We assume that double resonance occurs with respect to any positive spectral interval. Using variational tools and critical groups, we show that the problem has a nontrivial smooth solution.
