Monetary Plurality in Economic Theory

2018

The objective of this article is to identify the monetary plurality in economic theory. We will try to throw light on the way in which theories are attracted towards both unicity and plurality, and more specifically by unification and diversification of money. It should also be noted, in this respect, that the economics of money has undergone considerable development since the 1970s. A survey of the diverse theories, whether mainstream or not, static or dynamic, holistic or individualistic, will reveal the surprising amount of attention devoted to the problem of monetary unicity and/or plurality. We base our presentation on two lines of thought: -The first of these lines concerns a situatio…

Classical pediatric Hodgkin lymphoma in very young patients: the Italian experience

2019

Many studies have reported a more favorable outcome in younger patients with Hodgkin lymphoma (HL). The aims of this study were to find an appropriate age cutoff able to identify low-risk children and to describe the natural history of 135 very young patients affected by classic HL (cHL). The best age cutoff was identified at 7 years of age. EFS (p = .0451) and PFS (p = .00921) were significantly better in the group of younger patients. The OS rate at 10 years was 97.0% in the younger group and 92.5% in the older one (p = .0448). However, age was not found to be an independent prognostic factor in multivariate analysis and the better prognosis in younger patients seems to be related to more…

Akute Gefäßerkrankungen in der Gastroenterologie. Der Gastroenterologe - Acute gastroenterologic vascular diseases

2012

Acute gastroenterologic vascular emergencies are common situations in emergency departments and the clinical consequences range from trivial to life-threatening. Only the early recognition of these symptom patterns and prompt use of the appropriate diagnostic tools lead to a correct diagnosis with subsequent potentially life-saving treatment. To decrease the high mortality rate of acute mesenteric ischemia (50%), aorto-enteric fistula (30–40%), visceral artery aneurysms (10– 100%) and Budd-Chiari syndrome new strategies with an endovascular approach are gaining importance and are partially replacing established diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms. This article provides a review of the dia…

Le problème du réalisme des hypothèses en économie politique

2010

This is a version, slightly corrected in 2010 with regard to form, of a working paper produced in 1968. Its subject is the problem of the realism of assumptions in economics. It offers an interpretation of Milton Friedman's famous essay of 1953 in which, contrary to most discussions, Friedman's solution to the problem does make sense. Under that interpretation, Friedman does not assert that one should test the consequences of a theory but not its assumptions, that one can predict but not explain, or that individuals behave as if they were rational and firms as if they maximized profits. Such assertions do not make sense and ascribing them to Friedman makes criticism of his position much too…

IKK-β inhibitors: An analysis of drug–receptor interaction by using Molecular Docking and Pharmacophore 3D-QSAR approaches

2010

Abstract The IKK kinases family represents a thrilling area of research because of its importance in regulating the activity of NF-kB transcription factors. The discovery of the central role played by IKK-β in the activation of transcription in response to apoptotic or inflammatory stimuli allowed to considerate its modulation as a promising tool for the treatment of chronic inflammation and cancer. To date, several IKK-β inhibitors have been discovered and tested. In this work, an analysis of the interactions between different classes of inhibitors and their biological target was performed, through the application of Molecular Docking and Pharmacophore/3D-QSAR approaches to a set of 141 in…

The competency-based approach in developing countries : effects of curricular reforms in Sub-Saharan Africa

2013

For decades, all analyzes converge on the idea of the relative inefficiency of education systems in sub-Saharan Africa. Dropout, repetition, overstaffing, low quality of learning student failure and obsolescence of facilities, teaching materials and teachers, including sometimes the levels and quality of education remain somewhat uncertain, inadequate educational programs. In short, these are some of the ills that plague these systems and confirm the findings made by many reports. Given this weakness finding, educational authorities, supported by international aid mobilized in many countries to improve their systems to qualitatively, but also quantitatively equity because we must not forget…

Disconnected Graph Layout and the Polyomino Packing Approach

2002

Conference name: GD: International Symposium on Graph Drawing 9th International Symposium Date of Conference: 23–26 September 2001 We review existing algorithms and present a new approach for layout of disconnected graphs. The new approach is based on polyomino representation of components as opposed to rectangles. The parameters of our algorithm and their influence on the drawings produced as well as a variation of the algorithm for multiple pages are discussed. We also analyze our algorithm both theoretically and experimentally and compare it with the existing ones. The new approach produces much more compact and uniform drawings than previous methods. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg …

Re-Clustering tool using an Open-Reference method that improves OTU definition

2019

International audience; 1.Environmental microbial communities are now widely studied using metabarcoding approaches, thanks to the democratization of high‐throughput DNA sequencing technologies. The massive number of reads produced with these technologies requires bioinformatic solutions to be treated. A key step in the analysis is to cluster reads into Operational Taxonomic Units (or OTUs) and thus reduce the amount of data for downstream analyses. Due to the important impact of the clustering method on the quantity and quality of OTUs, finding an equilibrium between the reliability and time‐consuming nature of the chosen strategy is a real challenge. The present article proposes a new pos…

Fetal Calf Serum-Free Generation of Functionally Active Murine Dendritic Cells Suitable for In Vivo Therapeutic Approaches

2000

Standard protocols to generate mouse dendritic cells (DC) generally use culture medium supplemented with fetal calf serum; however, reinjection in vivo of DC cultured in fetal calf serum results in priming to xenogeneic proteins that clearly limits the use of such DC. We therefore established a fetal calf serum-free culture system for the generation of murine DC from bone marrow precursors. DC can be generated fetal calf serum-free using RPMI supplemented with 1.5% syngeneic mouse serum. Although the yield of DC grown under fetal calf serum-free conditions was somewhat lower than that of the standard culture, large numbers of DC could be generated without the exposure to xenogeneic proteins…

Pedagogical Practices for Virtual Worlds

2010

As a result from activities carried out within Module 2 of the MUVEnation programme about exploring active learning approaches, we have created a collection of practices for teaching and learning in Virtual Worlds, organised in 21 chapters, classified in the following categories of instructional methods: Presentation, Demonstration, Discussion, Drill-and-practice, Tutorial, Cooperative Learning, Gaming, Simulation and Discovery. The educational professionals who participated in the course worked in teams, but in some cases individually to map and describe the existing range of teaching practices in Second Life, and to draw a reflection about the elements for their success. Practices describ…
