Domain knowledge integration and semantical quality management -A biology case study

2008

International audience; The management of semantical quality is a major challenge in the context of knowledge integration. In this paper, we describe a new approach to constraint management that emphasizes constraint traceability when moving from the semantical level to the operational one.Our strategy for management of semantical quality is related to a metamo-deling-based approach to knowledge integration. We carry out knowledge integration “on the fly” by using transformations applied to models belonging to our metamodeling architecture. The resulting integrated models access available resources through web services whose input and output parameters are guarded by constraints. Integrated…

Architecture Enabling Adaptation of Data Integration Processes for a Research Information System

2018

Abstract Today, many efforts have been made to implement information systems for supporting research evaluation activities. To produce a good framework for research evaluation, the selection of appropriate measures is important. Quality aspects of the systems’ implementation should also not be overlooked. Incomplete or faulty data should not be used and metric computation formulas should be discussed and valid. Correctly integrated data from different information sources provide a complete picture of the scientific activity of an institution. Knowledge from the data integration field can be adapted in research information management. In this paper, we propose a research information system f…

Towards the definitive evaluation framework for cross-platform app development approaches

2019

Abstract Mobile app development is hindered by device fragmentation and vendor-specific modifications. Boundaries between devices blur with PC-tablet hybrids on the one side and wearables on the other. Future apps need to support a host of app-enabled devices with differing capabilities, along with their software ecosystems. Prior work on cross-platform app development concerned concepts and prototypes, and compared approaches that target smartphones. To aid choosing an appropriate framework and to support the scientific assessment of approaches, an up-to-date comparison framework is needed. Extending work on a holistic, weighted set of assessment criteria, we propose what could become the …

AN AGENT BASED ARCHITECTURE FOR MANUFACTURING E-MARKETPLACES

2005

This chapter presents the Agent Based Architecture developed within the research project, titled "Process and Production Planning in manufacturing Enterprise Networks". As mentioned in Chapter 1, the architecture has been developed to support “added value services” in neutral linear e-marketplaces, i.e. in virtual districts. In this chapter the architecture will be described from a functional and dynamic point of view by using the formalisms used in the project. In particular, from a functional perspective, the architecture is described by using the IDEF0 formalism, while its dynamics are specified by UML activity diagrams.

Optimization of the Relay Selection Scheme in Cooperative Retransmission Networks

2011

Cooperative MAC protocol design has attracted much attention recently thanks to the development of relaying techniques. In single-relay C-ARQ, the relay selection scheme cannot work efficiently in a dense network, due to high collision probability among different contending relays. In this paper, the throughput performance impairment from the collision is analysed in a typical network scenario. Thereby, we propose an optimized relay selection scheme aiming at maximizing system throughput by reducing collision probability. The throughput performance enhancement by the proposed optimal relay selection scheme is verified by simulations.

Prediction of Disease–lncRNA Associations via Machine Learning and Big Data Approaches

2021

This chapter introduces long non-coding RNAs and their role in the occurrence and progress of diseases. The discovery of novel lncRNA-disease associations may provide valuable input to the understanding of disease mechanisms at the lncRNA level, as well as to the detection of biomarkers for disease diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and prevention. Unfortunately, due to costs and time complexity, the number of possible disease-related lncRNAs verified by traditional biological experiments is very limited. Computational approaches for the prediction of potential disease-lncRNA associations can effectively decrease the time and cost of biological experiments. We first review the main computatio…

Optimization of a Time-to-Digital Converter and a coincidence map algorithm for TOF-PET applications

2015

This contribution describes the optimization of a multichannel high resolution Time-to-Digital Converter (TDC) in a Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) initially capable of obtaining time resolutions below 100ps for multiple channels. Due to its fast propagation capability it has taken advantage of the FPGA internal carry logic for accurate time measurements. Furthermore, the implementation of the TDC has been performed in different clock regions and tested with different frequencies as well, achieving improvements of up to 50% for a pair of channels. Moreover, since the TDC is potentially going to be used in a trigger system for Positron Emission Tomography (PET), the algorithm for coinci…

The Aquatic Surface Robot (AnSweR), a Lightweight, Low Cost, Multipurpose Unmanned Research Vessel

2021

Even though a few examples of aquatic surface robots exist, they are generally expensive, relatively large and heavy and tailored to custom-made hardware/software components that are not openly available to a broad public. In this work, the Aquatic Surface Robot (AnSweR), a newly-designed, lightweight, low cost, open-source, multipurpose unmanned research vessel is presented. The AnSweR features a lightweight and compact design that makes it fit in a backpack. Low-noise operation (in and above the surface) is achieved with a propulsion system based on two water-jets. Only affordable commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) components are adopted. The primary goal of the AnSweR is to map underwater l…

A reconfigurable architecture for autonomous visual-navigation

2003

This paper describes the design of a reconfigurable architecture for implementing image processing algorithms. This architecture is a pipeline of small identical processing elements that contain a programmable logic device (FPGA) and double port memories. This processing system has been adapted to accelerate the computation of differential algorithms. The log-polar vision selectively reduces the amount of data to be processed and simplifies several vision algorithms, making possible their implementation using few hard-ware resources. The reconfigurable architecture design has been devoted to implementation, and has been employed in an autonomous platform, which has power consumption, size a…

Performance Analysis of M-Ary PSK Modulation Schemes over Multiple Double Rayleigh Fading Channels with EGC in Cooperative Networks

2010

This article studies the performance of M-ary phase shift keying (PSK) modulation schemes over mobile-to-mobile (M2M) fading channels with equal gain combining (EGC) in cooperative networks. The frequency-nonselective M2M fading channels are modeled assuming non-line-of-sight (NLOS) propagation conditions. Furthermore, a dual-hop amplify-and-forward relay type cooperative network is taken into consideration here. It is assumed that K diversity branches are present between the source mobile station and the destination mobile station via K mobile relays. The performance of M-ary PSK modulation schemes is analyzed by evaluating the average bit error probability (BEP). We have derived a simple …
