A Multi-Relay Cooperative Automatic Repeat Request Protocol in Wireless Networks
2010
This paper proposes a Multi-relay Cooperative Automatic Repeat ReQuest protocol (MC-ARQ) for IEEE 802.11 based wireless networks. The proposed distributed relay selection scheme not only selects the best relays but also solves the collision problem among multiple contending relays, by sorting the relays in the network according to their instantaneous channel quality with the destination node. No prior information or explicit signaling among relay nodes is required. Both analytical and simulation results show that significant benefits can be achieved with the MC-ARQ protocol, compared with both the recently proposed PRCSMA scheme and the original non-cooperative DCF scheme.
A comparison study of evolutive algorithms for solving the partitioning problem in distributed virtual environment systems
2004
Fast Internet connections and the widespread use of high performance graphic cards are making Distributed Virtual Environment (DVE) systems very common nowadays. However, there are several key issues in these systems that should still be improved in order to design a scalable and cost-effective system. One of these key issues is the partitioning problem. This problem consists of efficiently assigning clients (3D avatars) to the servers in the system. In this paper, we present a comparison study of different modern heuristics for solving the partitioning problem in DVE systems, as an alternative to the ad hoc heuristic proposed in the literature. Performance evaluation results show that some…
A REST-based publish/subscribe platform to support things-to-services communications
2013
The term “Internet of Things” has been used widely in recent years, bringing up a grand idea of connecting physical objects with one another through both wired and wireless networks. Maturity of the Internet Protocol has pushed 21st century communications between devices to go all-IP, which includes everyday objects. Many new services are deployed in the “cloud”, utilising the Internet infrastructure and the Web, and information from everyday objects can play an important role. This paper presents an information integration platform which enables everyday objects to communicate with Internet services based on event-driven service-oriented architecture paradigm. A proof-of-concept prototype …
A new ATLAS muon CSC readout system with system on chip technology on ATCA platform
2015
The ATLAS muon Cathode Strip Chamber (CSC) backend readout system has been upgraded during the LHC 2013-2015 shutdown to be able to handle the higher Level-1 trigger rate of 100 kHz and the higher occupancy at Run 2 luminosity. The readout design is based on the Reconfigurable Cluster Element (RCE) concept for high bandwidth generic DAQ implemented on the Advanced Telecommunication Computing Architecture (ATCA) platform. The RCE design is based on the new System on Chip XILINX ZYNQ series with a processor-centric architecture with ARM processor embedded in FPGA fabric and high speed I/O resources together with auxiliary memories to form a versatile DAQ building block that can host applicati…
Real-time data processing in the ALICE High Level Trigger at the LHC
2019
At the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland, atomic nuclei are collided at ultra-relativistic energies. Many final-state particles are produced in each collision and their properties are measured by the ALICE detector. The detector signals induced by the produced particles are digitized leading to data rates that are in excess of 48 GB/$s$. The ALICE High Level Trigger (HLT) system pioneered the use of FPGA- and GPU-based algorithms to reconstruct charged-particle trajectories and reduce the data size in real time. The results of the reconstruction of the collision events, available online, are used for high level data quality and detector-performance monitoring and real-tim…
Tra mito e modello. Le cattedrali normanne nell'architettura religiosa del Cinquecento in Italia meridionale
2021
Enterprise Architecture Descriptions for Enhancing Local Government Transformation and Coherency Management
2011
Local governments cover multiple service sectors and are typically organized into diversified, deeply hierarchical organizations. Public services offered are tangible, mostly non-IT-critical, and heavily dependent on human resources. Information management is mainly manual in strategy and management processes. In this case study of a large Finnish local government organization, enterprise architecture (EA) is proposed as a tool for improving the coherency of the local government and its alignment to IT and other resources. We ask, what kind of EA descriptions local government agencies need for coherency management, and how to organize them. We apply action design research principles at the …
Langmuir-Blodgett films of biocompatible poly(HPMA)-block-poly(lauryl methacrylate) and poly(HPMA)-random-poly(lauryl methacrylate): influence of pol…
2010
Membranes based on functional biocompatible polymers can be regarded as a useful model system to study biological interactions, e.g. antibody-antigen interactions or protein polymer interactions. These model systems may give a better insight into these processes and may help to find suitable polymeric structures offering biocompatibility as well as reduced polymer protein interaction. In this respect, Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) layer formation at the air/water (A/W) interface is studied in respect to polymer architecture in this article. For this purpose, narrowly distributed N-(2-hydroxypropyl)-methacrylamide (HPMA) random and block copolymers have been prepared by the RAFT polymerization meth…
Viscometric study of mixtures of neutral and charged polymers in aqueous solution
1997
The viscosity behaviour of aqueous mixtures formed by a polyelectrolyte (A) and a neutral polymer (B) such as polystyrene sulfonate (PSS)-polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and polylysine (PLL)-PVP has been studied at 25°C. The intrinsic viscosity and viscosity interaction parameter of each polymer in water have been determined and have served us to estimate the compatibility of the different mixtures according to two different methodologies: (i) mixtures of two polymers in water as solvent and (ii) mixtures of either polymer A OFB in a solvent formed by either polymer B or A in water ("polymer solvent method"). By comparing the experimental and theoretical viscosity data it is clearly seen that: m…
Adsorption-induced polymer translocation through a nanopore: a Monte Carlo investigation
2005
Abstract We study the translocation of a coarse-grained flexible polymer through a nanopore in a membrane induced by its adsorption on the trans side of the membrane. Dramatic differences in the threading behavior are observed if the adhesion to the membrane wall, e w , is below or above the adsorption threshold e c r . For e w e c r (weak adsorption) the activation barrier for translocation is at c cis 0 ≈ N / 2 (in terms of the fraction of chain c cis = N cis / N before the pore), independent of chain length N. For e w > e c r this barrier is at a constant (vanishing) number of passed trans monomers for all N. The mean time of chain passage τ trans ∝ c cis 1.3 when c cis c cis 0 . It scal…
