Grain Composition and Functional Ingredients of Barley Varieties Created in Latvia

Abstract Cereals, including barley, have been recognised as functional foods that provide beneficial effect on the health of the consumer and decrease the risk of various diseases. The aim of investigation was to determine the grain composition of barley varieties and perspective breeding lines bred in Latvia and to evaluate its functional ingredients. The results of analysis showed that protein content among varieties ranged from 106.6-146.8 g·kg-1, total dietary fibre 187.4-208.2 g·kg-1, β-glucans 42.8 g-49.4 g·kg-1, and amount of α-tocopherol 6.03-8.93 mg·kg-1. Malgré le temps écoulé depuis les premiers travaux du genre, la question de l'influence des méthodes sur les résultats produits n'a que rarement été posée, ou bien à peine explorée. Bakalaura darba mērķis ir izpētīt japāņu cīņas mākslas kendō (剣道 kendō) vēsturi un to, kā tā attīstījās kopš pirmo zobenu cīņas mākslas kendžucu (剣術 kenjutsu) skolu rašanās brīža Muromači periodā (1336-1573) līdz mūsdienām. Bakalaura darbs sastāv no 3 daļām un 8 nodaļām. Pirmajā daļā tiks pētīta zobenu vēsture, pirmās kendžucu skolas un nozīmīgāko zobenu cīņas meistaru ietekme uz kendō attīstību. Otrā daļa ietvers laiku no Meidži perioda (1868-1912) līdz 2.pasaules karam. Tiks izpētīts, kā zobenu cīņas mākslas tika modernizētas un iekļautas skolu programmās. Trešajā daļā tiks noskaidrots, kā kendō kļuva par vienu no populārākajām japāņu cīņas mākslām pasaulē. Darba apjoms ir 40 lapas.

Joannes Molanus, teolog, rektor Uniwersytetu w Louvain napisał obszerny traktat, który miał być pomocą dla biskupów i księży, w szczegółowym zastosowaniu ogólnego dekretu soborowego o obrazach. Molanus odrzucił te sposoby obrazowania, które nie są oparte na Biblii, a na apokryfach. Zerwał także z niektórymi przedstawieniami alegorycznymi czy wschodnimi. Stworzył teologiczne podstawy pod katolicką sztukę sakralną, która jest obecna w kościołach do dziś. The essential oils of the flowers of Magydaris tomentosa (Desf.) DC. (Apiaceae) collected in Sicily (MSi) and Algeria (MAl), respectively, were obtained by hydrodistillation, and their compositions were analysed. The analyses allowed the identification and quantification of 23 components in MSi and 60 compounds in MAl, respectively, showing a very different profile in the composition of the two populations. The main components of MSi were cembrene (28.2%), α-springene (17.5%) and β-springene (14.8%), also present in MAl but in lesser amount (0.4%, 1.8% and 0.9%, respectively), whereas the principal constituents of MAl were (E)-nerolidol (35.4%), α-costol (13.3%) and β-costol (6.8%). Desymmetrization of Prochiral Cyclobutanones via Nitrogen Insertion: A Concise Route to Chiral γ‐Lactams

Abstract Asymmetric access to γ‐lactams is achieved via a cyclobutanone ring expansion using widely available (1S,2R)‐1‐amino‐2‐indanol for chiral induction. Mechanistic analysis of the key N,O‐ketal rearrangement reveals a Curtin–Hammett scenario, which enables a downstream stereoinduction (up to 88:12 dr) and is corroborated by spectroscopic, crystallographic, and computational studies. In combination with an easy deprotection protocol, this operationally simple sequence allows the synthesis of a range of optically pure γ‐lactams, including those bearing all‐carbon quaternary stereocenters.
