The school careers of immigrant's children in France: success and disillusions

2006

06056; This paper will describe the school careers of immigrant children and analyze the patterns of educational inequality in France. It will provide an analysis of immigrant's educational expectations viewed in relation with their children's school careers, taking into account the impact of social, ethnic and geographical origin. In this perspective, we use a rich longitudinal dataset (Ministry of Education 1995 Panel). We point out higher educational expectations among immigrant parents, as compared with native parents of similar social background. High expectations and consistent efforts turn out to be important elements of educational achievement. However some discrepancy appears betwe…

<title>Multiparameter breast cancer cell image analysis for objective estimation of nuclear grade: comparison with light microscopic observatio…

2000

We performed a multi parameter image analysis assessment of breast cancer cell population nuclear grade (NG), which is regarded as one of the main prognostic factors for treatment efficacy and survival of the patients and compared it with light microscopic estimation of NG. Cytological imprint slides from 20 ductal carcinomas were stained according to Leischmann-AzureII-eosine method, and NG was estimated by light microscopic observation according to Black in Fisher's modification. Simultaneously, using specially elaborated software, in each patient 100 cancer cells were analyzed for nuclear perimeter, diameter, area, nucleolar area, and average intensity of staining. The chromatin structur…

Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma With Exon 2 p.L56M RET Variant: Clinical Particular Features in Two Patients

2018

RET (REarranged during Transfection) proto-oncogene variants are essential for the development of familial and sporadic forms of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC). The most frequent variants are usually located in exons 10, 11, and 13 through 16 of the RET gene. We report two cases of apparently sporadic MTC associated with the variant in exon 2 of RET gene. Patient 1, a 62-year old man who had undergone adrenalectomy for a 5 cm pheochromocytoma, was screened for type 2 multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN 2) which showed elevated basal and post-intravenous calcium gluconate calcitonin levels. A fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) confirmed the suspicion of MTC. The patient underwent total th…

Ultraschallgezielte Feinnadelaspirationsbiopsie raumfordernder Leber- und Pankreasprozesse und perkutane Abszeß-Drainage

1981

Diagnosis of a Case of Lipoid Pneumonia by Bronchoalveolar Lavage

1987

Exogenous lipoid pneumonia (ELP) was diagnosed by bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) in a 57-year-old woman with a long history of using oily nose drops. Since clinical and roentgenological presentations are nonspecific, BAL, along with specific staining of recovered alveolar macrophages, represents a safe alternative to more invasive diagnostic procedures whenever a diagnosis of ELP is suspected.

Gingival and submandibular lymph node metastasis of sigmoid colon adenocarcinoma

2010

Introduction: Metastatic tumors of oral and maxillofacial region compromise 1% of all malignant oral neoplasms. Most commonly affect the jaw bone and less commonly intraoral soft tissues. They originate mainly from primary tumors of lung, breast, colon-rectum, prostate and kidney. Case report: a 77 years old man with history of sigmoid colon adenocarcinoma and liver metastasis. Two years later of being free of disease, he presented with submandi- bular lymphadenopathy and a gingival mass in right upper jaw. Fine needle aspiration of the node and biopsy of the gingival mass were performed. The cytological smears showed cohesive cell groups on a necrotic background. Biopsy examination showed …

Intraductal aspiration: a promising new tissue-sampling technique for the diagnosis of suspected malignant biliary strictures

2012

Brushing is the most commonly used technique for biliary sampling at ERCP, despite its limited sensitivity. To evaluate intraductal aspiration (IDA) as a new combined endoscopic technique for cytodiagnosis, its cellular adequacy, diagnostic accuracy for cancer detection, feasibility, and safety. Prospective, observational study. Single tertiary referral center. IDA cellular adequacy, diagnostic accuracy for cancer detection, feasibility, and safety. From April 2009 to September 2010, 42 consecutive patients with suspected malignant biliary stricture underwent ERCP, with tissue sampling obtained with IDA. IDA included performance of standard brushing in all patients. After standard brushing,…

Interventistica eco-guidata per l’articolazione d’anca

2013

The purpose of this work is to review the main applications of ultrasound-guided hip intervention al procedures describing the indications and methodology. Ultrasound is a method considered safe for patients as it has not been shown a possible damage due to ultrasound energy transmitted towards the patient's tissues as opposed to methods that make use of ionizing radiation such as conventional radiography and computed tomography. In addition ultrasound is quick and effective in guiding the needle to the desired location avoiding vascular and/or nerve structures thus enabling greater security compared to the techniques performed in interventional fluoroscopy which also have the disadvantage of a large delivery of ionizing radiation for both patient and operator. Several authors have described the main techniques of ultrasound-guided hip intervention and its various applications that can be both diagnostic (as in the case of joint fluid aspiration to assess the presence or absence of septic arthritis) and therapeutic (as in the case of drugs inoculations or evacuation of exceeding intra-articular fluid).
