Linguistic, Contextual, and Experiential Equivalence Issues in the Adaptation of a Performance-Based Assessment of Generic Skills in Higher Education

This qualitative study investigated the various linguistic, contextual, and experiential equivalence issues embedded in a performance-based instrument aimed at assessing generic skills in higher education. A rigorous translation and adaptation process (American English to Finnish) was conducted on one instrument, namely Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA+) International. The data were obtained from cognitive laboratories (n = 13), with think-alouds and follow-up interviews conducted among Finnish undergraduate students. Assessing the conservation priority of freshwater lake sites based on taxonomic, functional and environmental uniqueness

Aim We propose a novel approach that considers taxonomic uniqueness, functional uniqueness and environmental uniqueness and show how it can be used in guiding conservation planning. We illustrate the approach using data for lake biota and environment. Location Lake Puruvesi, Finland. Methods We sampled macrophytes and macroinvertebrates from the same 18 littoral sites. This dissertation explored the effects of strength and balance training (SBT) as part of a multimodal geriatric intervention on physical functioning and health-related factors associated with training participation in a community-dwelling population aged 75 years and over. Interest in studying teaching practices has increased, because of the need to evaluate teachers and dissatisfaction with the usual ways of doing it. Recent approaches with Value-Added Models, based on students’ results on achievement tests do not seem satisfactory. The article is based on a review of literature and classifies the approaches to practices in three groups: instruments based on information given by teachers; observation protocols; and approaches based on the analysis of products of the practices. Darbā tika pētītas vārdu krājuma testēšanas paņēmienu priekšrocības un trūkumi un visefektīvākais un drošākais paņēmiens vārdu krājuma pārbaudei mācību apstākļos. Pētījuma rezultāti spēj veicināt izvēli par labu konkrētam testēšanas paņēmienam, saskaņā ar novērtēšanas veidu un mērķi, tēmu, mērķauditoriju un vidi. Darba teorētiskā daļa ir balstīta uz Arthur Hughes (2003), Scott Thornbury (2002), John Read (2000) un Penny Ur (1999) teorijas.
