Abstract Background Management of ovarian cysts in infants is controversial; it can be conservative or surgical, and the management is determined by the cyst's size and sonographic features. Methods A surgical approach using a 10-mm umbilically placed operative laparoscope was taken in 3 female infants with antenatally diagnosed large, simple ovarian cysts. The contents of the cysts were partially aspirated and the cyst walls were stripped off the remaining ovarian parenchyma. No intraoperative or postoperative complications were recorded. Endoscope-assisted Craniotomy

We describe a surgical technique to improve visualization of deep brain structures during craniotomy. The technique, developed in a cadaveric model, combines the use of an operating microscope and a solid-rod lens endoscope. Addition of the endoscope during craniotomy allows the operator to visualize structures that otherwise might not have been seen. An approach to the brain stem is demonstrated.

Changes in Pupil Area during Low-energy Femtosecond Laser-assisted Cataract Surgery

Purpose: To study the potential changes in pupil area within low-energy femtosecond-laser assisted cataract surgery (FLACS). Methods: A retrospective assessment of the pupil size was performed in the eyes undergoing FLACS using the Ziemer LDV Z8. We measured the pupil diameters as part of the images taken preoperatively and at the completion of laser pretreatment (after releasing the suction). We calculated the pupil area in 40 eyes of 40 patients (14 right and 26 left eyes). The mean ± standard deviation (SD) of age of the patients was 74 ± 7.4 years (range: 51-87). Literatūras norāda uz to, ka negatīvā spiediena brūču terapija sekmē ātrāku audu defekta dzīšanu. Šīs terapijas iespējamais blakusefekts var būt organisma proteīnu zudums. Vidējais kopējā proteīna līmenis eksudātā ir 57 g/L, bet albumīna līmenis ir 21 g/L. Terapija specifisks proteīna zudums var tikt aprēķināts reizinot seruma albumīnu ar 0.3. Literatūras datiem atbilstošu olbaltumvielu uzņemšanu, kas sastāda 1.5g/kg/dienā ir attiecīgi jāreizina ar 1.3, rezultātā iegūstot 2.0 g/kg/dienā. Although hydrodistillation, steam distillation and solvent extraction are the most applied methods, several non‐conventional technologies have been evaluated, especially in respect to EO recovery, and a great potential has been attributed to these non‐conventional methods. Everyone who acquires a new language at school or elsewhere has the right to learn good pronunciation. As phonetic errors are foreseeable, this paper begins by delineating deviations in (co)articulation and prosody which are typical of Italian learners of German, with the aim of examining how far these specific, predictable phonetic problems are treated in German textbooks used in Italy. The study shows that even modern textbooks do not consider phonetics in a satisfactory way.
