Untargeted metabolomics to explore the oxidation processes during shelf life of pork patties treated with guarana seed extracts
2019
The changes of metabolites in pork patties with different antioxidants added (control without antioxidants, 200 mg kg(-1) butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) and 250 mg kg(-1) guarana seed extracts (GSEs)) under modified atmosphere (80% O-2 and 20% CO2) for 18 days of refrigerated storage were evaluated. Untargeted metabolomic approach based on UHPLC-ESI-QTOF-MS analysis was applied. GSE phytochemical profile revealed a wide variety of compounds (caffeine, glycerol 1-propanoate, amino acids, alkaloids and glycerophospholipids), together with antioxidants (tyrosols, procyanidins and flavonoids). Important differences in BHT and GSE patties metabolomic profiles were found during storage. Most of t…
H-He collision-induced satellite in the Lyman alpha profile of DBA white dwarf stars
2020
The spectra of helium-dominated white dwarf stars with hydrogen in their atmosphere present a distinctive broad feature centered around 1160~\AA\/ in the blue wing of the Lyman-$\alpha$ line. It is extremely apparent in WD 1425+540 recently observed with HST COS. With new theoretical line profiles based on ab initio atomic interaction potentials we show that this feature is a signature of a collision-induced satellite due to an asymptotically forbidden transition. This quasi-molecular spectral satellite is crucial to understanding the asymmetrical shape of Lyman-$\alpha$ seen in this and other white dwarf spectra. Our previous work predicting this absorption feature was limited by molecular…
Contribution à l'étude des liaisons optiques atmosphériques : propagation, disponibilité et fiabilité.
2005
In this work we study the fog attenuation in the visible and infrared spectral band related to Free Space Optics (FSO). Based on the Mie scattering theory, fog extinction coefficients for different particle size distributions as a function of wavelength were derived. A simple analytical model allowing the prediction of atmospheric transmission for the 0.69 - 1.55 µm spectral band was developed. This model is valid for advection and convection fog and for visibility range between 50 to 1000 m. This model, implemented into software developed at FT R&D, allows the prediction of the Quality of Service of FSO links. Finally, we performed an experimental study to compare the fog effect on two FSO…
The “chimney forest” of the deep Montenegrin margin, south-eastern Adriatic Sea
2015
A spectacular field of columnar carbonates has been discovered on the Montenegrin margin in the southern Adriatic Sea at a depth of about 450 m. The site exposes many columnar carbonates protruding from the substrate or abated on the bottom. Such carbonates attain maximum visible lengths of ca. 60 cm with diameters up to 20 cm; display an annular growth, and are either hollow or plugged by indurated sediment. Petrographic and geochemical analyses document the pervasive presence of dolomite, and delta C-13 values as low as -30%(0) VPDB. These 'chimneys' are therefore interpreted as former conduits related to hydrocarbon expulsion in this sector of the Adriatic basin. However, available data …
Etude diagnostique de nouvelles données climatiques : les réanalyses. Exemples d'application aux précipitations en Afrique tropicale
2000
This study establishes an objective diagnosis of NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data reliability over tropical Africa at intra-seasonal to interannuel space scale. The reanalysis data are an original database available over 1958-1998 period which combines observations and atmospheric model outputs and allows us to better understand global scale atmospheric dynamics. The study of data reliability allows us to identify a great number of recommendations for using them. Over tropical Africa, the homogeneous period which should be extracted goes from 1968 to 1998. Before this year, reanalysed datasets should be used with greatest caution. However, during this period, the SMWDA, a statistical method used t…
Violence, exclusion and the role of children and adolescents moral features in the sport domain: The save project
2019
The prevention of violence and exclusion in the sport domain is one of the principal priorities of the European Union Programs. Sport Against Violence and Exclusion (SAVE) Project is an initiative co-founded by the Erasmus Plus Programme of the European Commission, whose aim is to train coach to recognize and manage violent and exclusion episodes in the sport situation. According to the psychological literature, one of the predictors of aggressiveness and antisocial tendencies is morality. In particular, for what concerns children, a less mature moral reasoning is associated to a greater tendency to aggress, while for adolescents, the moral atmosphere, in particular, the perception of the c…
Chemical-based methodologies approaches to extend the shelf life of fresh fish — a review
2021
Due to its characteristics, fresh fish is a highly perishable food with a very short shelf-life under refrigeration. Several methods have been introduced to slow down its deterioration, such as by means of oxygen depletion of the food package (vacuum packaging), or by changing the natural atmosphere that is in contact with the fresh fish (modified atmosphere packaging), or by the use of chemicals generally recognized as safe: such compounds can be directly applied (by dipping or spraying) or incorporated into packaging materials and slowly migrate to the product, exerting a hurdle effect against microbial development and lipid oxidation (active packaging). This review aims to cover the most…
A study of the effect of molecular and aerosol conditions in the atmosphere on air fluorescence measurements at the Pierre Auger Observatory
2010
The air fluorescence detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory is designed to perforin calorimetric measurements of extensive air showers created by Cosmic rays of above 10(18) eV. To correct these measurements for the effects introduced by atmospheric fluctuations, the Observatory contains a group Of monitoring instruments to record atmospheric conditions across the detector site, ail area exceeding 3000 km(2). The atmospheric data are used extensively in the reconstruction of air showers, and are particularly important for the correct determination of shower energies and the depths of shower maxima. This paper contains a summary of the molecular and aerosol conditions measured at the Pierr…
Influence of annealing atmosphere on photoelectrochemical response of TiO2 nanotubes anodized under controlled hydrodynamic conditions
2021
[EN] The influence of three annealing atmospheres (air, nitrogen and argon) and the use of controlled hydrodynamic conditions (from 0 to 5000 rpm) on morphological, structural, chemical and photoelectrochemical properties of TiO2 nanotubes have been evaluated. For this purpose, different characterization techniques have been used: Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy, Raman Confocal Laser Spectroscopy, X-Ray Diffraction, X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, Incident Photon-to-electron Conversion Efficiency measurements, ultraviolet-visible absorption spectra, Mott-Schottky analysis and photoelectrochemical water splitting tests. According to the results, it can be concluded that both hy…
Development of processes, qualification, and de-risking for the Ariel primary mirror
2022
The work carried out in the Ph.D. program focused on developing the optics design of the Atmospheric Remote-Sensing Infrared Exoplanet Large Survey (Ariel) telescope, an optical/infrared mission of the European Space Agency (ESA), whose primary mirror is an off-axis paraboloid mirror measuring 1.2 · 0.7m. The novelty of the telescope is that both the mirrors and the telescope structure will be made of aluminium, and the primary mirror will be made of bare aluminium without a thick hard coating. The choice is mainly due to the thermo-mechanical properties of the material, and the usage of the same material for the whole structure will allow better heat exchange between the mirror and the opt…
