Isolation of the left atrial surface from cardiac multi-detector CT images based on marker controlled watershed segmentation

2006

The delineation of left atrium (LA) and pulmonary veins (PVs) anatomy from high resolution images holds importance for atrial fibrillation (AF) investigation and treatment. In this study, a semiautomatic segmentation procedure for LA and PVs inner surface from contrast enhanced CT data was developed. The procedure consists of a three dimensional marker controlled watershed segmentation applied to the external morphological gradient, followed by variable threshold surface extraction from the original intensity image. A preliminary anisotropic non-linear filtering was implemented to improve the S/N ratio of CT images. The performance of segmentation was evaluated on cardiac CT scans of 12 AF …

BPS Dionu BIoni, Neekstremālie atrisinājumi AdS_5 × S^5 telpā un AdS/CFT duāli objekti

2019

Dotajā darbā tiek meklēti neekstremālie atrisinājumi, kuri atbilst Dionu BIoniem vai citiem solitonu tipa atrisinājumiem. Kā zināms Dž. Švarca \cite{Schwarz:2014zsa}, H. Maldasena \cite{Maldacena:1998im} un R. Maijersa \cite{Myers:1999ps} darbos tiek analizēti dažādi ekstremālie atrisinājumi, dotajā darbā sākumā tiek analizēta D3 zondes brānas ekstremālā konstrukcija $ AdS_{5} \times S^{5} $ telpā. Nākamajā posma šī ģeometrija tiek deformēta ieviešot metrikā melnos faktorus, kas arī attīsta notikuma horizonta jēdzienu (melnā brāna) un noved pie problēmas galīgo temperatūras atrisinājumu eksistenci un to interpretācijas. Ekstremālajā gadījumā ($ T = 0 $) tiek dots neatkarīgs jauns izvedums, …

Safety of the first dose of fingolimod for multiple sclerosis: results of an open-label clinical trial

2014

BACKGROUND: In patients with relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS) fingolimod prevents disease relapses and delays disability progression. First dose administration of fingolimod is associated with a transient, dose-dependent decrease in heart rate (HR) in the 6 hours after drug intake. The aim of the study is to to assess safety and tolerability of the first dose of fingolimod in a cohort of Italian patients with RRMS without alternative therapeutic options. METHODS: Open-label, single arm, multicentre study. After the first dose of fingolimod, patients were observed for 6 hours and had their vital signs monitored hourly. Extended on-site monitoring was provided when required. RESULTS: Of the 906 p…

Recurrent Ischemic Stroke and Bleeding in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation Who Suffered an Acute Stroke While on Treatment With Nonvitamin K Antagon…

2022

Background: In patients with atrial fibrillation who suffered an ischemic stroke while on treatment with nonvitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants, rates and determinants of recurrent ischemic events and major bleedings remain uncertain. Methods: This prospective multicenter observational study aimed to estimate the rates of ischemic and bleeding events and their determinants in the follow-up of consecutive patients with atrial fibrillation who suffered an acute cerebrovascular ischemic event while on nonvitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulant treatment. Afterwards, we compared the estimated risks of ischemic and bleeding events between the patients in whom anticoagulant therapy was chan…

[Atrial fibrillation in patients with COVID-19. Usefulness of the CHA

2021

Microevolution of eastern palaearctic Grey tits as indicated by their vocalizations (Parus [Poecile]: Paridae, Aves) I. Parus montanus: Contributions…

2009

Within the Palaearctic Region, the Willow tit (Parus montanus) displays four vicariant forms of territorial song. 1. “Alpine” form (pure single-frequency whistles, Fig. 5: 1) in the Alps and adjacent mountains to the East. 2. “Lowland” or “Normal” form (frequency change from high to low within one note, Fig. 5: 2) in the other parts of NW, Central and SE Europe. 3. In populations of N and E Europe as well as of W and E Siberia every individual bird uses - so far as known - both song types; this “Siberian” form (Figs. 1, 2) includes intergrades (Fig. 3). The comparatively type-rich Siberian repertoire is found in a vast area from N and E Europe to the Amur River and Ussuriland in Siberia. 4.…

Exercising recommendations for paroxysmal AF in young and middle-aged athletes (PAFIYAMA) syndrome.

2017

We have recently described a new syndrome: strenuous endurance exercise-related atrial fibrillation (AF) under the acronym of ‘paroxysmal AF in young and middle-aged athletes’ (‘PAFIYAMA’). Provided that other risk factors for AF and underlying conditions have been excluded (1), the diagnostic criteria for this syndrome entail a number of conditions, classified as major and minor. An enhanced risk of AF has been clearly documented in endurance athletes (top-class, elite and recreational) (2-5), and such risk typically ranges between 1.2- to 15-fold compared to the general, sedentary population (the better cardiovascular fitness, the higher incidence of AF) (6-11). Anecdotally, the last auth…
