Obesity under full fresh fruit and vegetable access conditions

There is no agreement regarding the role of fresh fruit and vegetables’ affordability, accessibility and availability, or access in general, on obesity rates. In this article we investigated whether access to fresh fruit and vegetables is related to better biometric indicators such as weight and body mass index. Using mediation and matching methods and assuming that farmers and traditional market sellers have easy access to fruit and vegetables, we found that having better access is not associated to a reduction in weight or body mass index. Psychometric properties of the parental bonding instrument in a Spanish sample.

The Parental Bonding Instrument was translated into Spanish and administered to a sample of 205 Spanish primiparae 3 days after childbirth. Reliability, factorial structure and predictive validity for affective disorders were evaluated. The Spanish version of the PBI has psychometric features similar to those described in other cultures. However, the results suggest that in future research the predictive power of the “Control” factor in affective disorders might be improved by splitting it into two subfactors: “Overprotection” and “Restraint”.

The effects of an education-leave program on educational attainment and labor-market outcomes

Abstract I study the effect of an education leave subsidy for the employed on labor-market outcomes and educational attainment using Finnish administrative linked employer-employee panel data and matching methods. The adult education allowance is available to employees with at least eight years of work experience and allows them to take a leave for 2–18 months to participate in an education program while being compensated for a substantial part of their forgone earnings. AbstractWe describe a novel localization of C7 as a membrane-bound molecule on endothelial cells (ECs). Data obtained by sodium dodecyl sulfate–polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE), Western blot analysis, Northern blot analysis, and mass spectrometry revealed that membrane-associated C7 (mC7) was indistinguishable from soluble C7 and was associated with vimentin on the cell surface. mC7 interacted with the other late complement components to form membrane-bound TCC (mTCC). Objective The aim of the study was to analyze long-term results of carotid endarterectomy (CEA) using bovine pericardium patch. Patients and Methods This study is a retrospective analysis of 274 consecutive cases (173 in CEA group and 101 patients in an internal control group of eversion endarterectomy [EEA]) operated between January 2005 and May 2007. Operations were performed according to standard surgical technique. Primary endpoints of the study were 30-day mortality, ipsilateral neurologic event rate, and high-grade restenosis in the long-term follow-up.
