Localizzazione ottimale degli stalli per il parcheggio delle biciclette: il caso studio della città di Palermo - Optimal location for bike parking lo…

2015

The lack of parking spaces for bicycles is one of the main issues that many cities face. A proper planning of a bike station network is necessary in order to optimize the whole urban system and the transport supply. In this work a step-by-step analysis is proposed to find the best location for the bicycle lots in the old town of Palermo. The optimization method includes the use of both a Set Covering Model and a Maximum Coverage Location Problem. The dataset for the simulations was collected by direct and indirect surveys on the population and implemented into Open source GIS software. In particular, data on the destinations, times and distances covered by the bicycles’ users were included.…

Functional distinction between Cln1p and Cln2p cyclins in the control of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae mitotic cycle.

2004

Abstract Cln1p and Cln2p are considered as equivalent cyclins on the basis of sequence homology, regulation, and functional studies. Here we describe a functional distinction between the Cln1p and Cln2p cyclins in the control of the G1/S transition. Inactivation of CLN2, but not of CLN1, leads to a larger-than-normal cell size, whereas overexpression of CLN2, but not of CLN1, results in smaller-than-normal cells. Furthermore, mild ectopic expression of CLN2, but not of CLN1, suppresses the lethality of swi4swi6 and cdc28 mutant strains. In the absence of Cln1p, the kinetics of budding, initiation of DNA replication, and activation of the Start-transcription program are not affected; by cont…

Enhanced steatosis by nuclear receptor ligands: a study in cultured human hepatocytes and hepatoma cells with a characterized nuclear receptor expres…

2010

Steatosis is the first step in the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). However, the mechanisms involved in its pathogenesis are not fully understood. Many nuclear receptors (NRs) involved in energy homeostasis and biotransformation constitute a network connecting fatty acids, cholesterol and xenobiotic metabolisms; therefore, multiple NRs and their ligands may play a prominent role in liver fat metabolism and accumulation. In this study we have attempted to gain insight into the relevance of the NR superfamily in NAFLD by investigating the steatogenic potential of 76 different NR ligands in fatty acid overloaded human hepatocytes and hepatoma cells. Moreover, we have d…

Composition of the essential oil of allium neapolitanum cirillo growing wild in sicily and its activity on microorganisms affecting historical art cr…

2015

Essential oil of the aerial parts of Allium neapolitanum Cirillo collected in Sicily were analyzed by gas-chromatography-flame-ionization detection and gas-chromatography-mass spectrometry. Nineteen compounds were identified in the oil and the main components were found to be (E)-chrysanthenyl acetate (28.1%), (Z)-chrysanthenyl acetate (23.8%), (E)-β-farnesene (9.6%), dimethyl trisulfide (9.6%), camphor (7.4%), methyl allyl disulfide (6.8%) and 1-methyl-3-allyl trisulfide (5.8%). The essential oil showed good antimicrobial activity against 11 strains of test microorganisms, including several species infesting historical material.

Chemical composition of the essential oil of Jacobaea maritima (L.) PelserMeijden and Jacobaea maritima subsp. bicolor (Willd.) B. Nord.Greuter (Aste…

2015

In this study, the chemical compositions of the essential oils from aerial parts (JmA) and radices (JmR) of Jacobaea maritima (L.) Pelser & Meijden, collected in Croatia, and of Jacobaea maritima subsp. bicolor (Willd.) B. Nord. & Greuter, collected in Sicily, were evaluated by using gas chromatography and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. The main components of the essential oil from J. maritima, both in JmA and JmR, were pentacosane (15.7%), heptacosane (13.1%) and nonacosane (8.1%) whereas the essential oil from J. maritima subsp. bicolor was characterised by the presence of hexadecanoic acid (14.6%), caryophyllene oxide (9.3%) and hexahydrofarnesylacetone (6.5%). The comparison of t…

Efficacy of Clove Essential Oil an Sodium Bicarbonate to Control Powdwry Mildew and Grey Mould in the Strawberry Crops

2010

Straberry growning in greenhouse is frequently affected by diseases which are controlled by means of chemical products. In order to find an alternative to synthetic fungicides, the antifungal activity of clove essential oil and Sodium bicarbonate were tested to control powdery mildew (causal agent Oìdium fragaria (Harz.)and grey mould and grey mould (Botrytis cinerea Pers.) "in vitro" and in planta essays "In vitro" essay the inhibition efficacy of natural substances was evaluated on O.fragariae conidial germination and on B. cinerea mycelial growth. The results showed a consistent fungicidal activity in all concentrations tested. In planta essay, treatments were carried out in greenhouse on…

La sicurezza dei ciclisti: valutazione dei percorsi ciclabili della città di Palermo

2013

The safety of cyclists: evaluation of cycle paths in the city of Palermo Some Italian cities have developed a growing interest in the development of cycling and they are equipped with efficient network of bicycle paths. Palermo has a high potential for increasing the use of the bicycle, for both orographic characteristics of its urban center both for the highly favorable climatic conditions. Unfortunately, a lack of integration between the urban and the transport system, generated infrastructures in urban areas, which for lack of space does not offer users a high level of service in terms of comfort and safety. These conditions don’t have certainly encouraged the development of an active cy…

Buone Pratiche, Progetti e Strategie

2013

Influence of the vehicle front shape inTeenage Cyclist-Vehicle Crash

2016

In this work the data, obtained for the three vehicles (sedan, SUV and Pick Up), tested in previous works, are compared. Following the results found in the literature, particular emphasis is done on the speed of the teenager cyclist head at the instant of impact and the diagrams of the head speed and the chest obtained in the simulations are shown. The speed of the head is that absolute, and this is used for processing the data and the subsequent determination of the best values of the three geometric actual parameters identified in front of the vehicle. Absolute speed is preferred because using the relative speed respect to vehicle, some amounts that cannot be disregarded are omitted from …

Color and Timbre Gestures: An Approach with Bicategories and Bigroupoids

2022

White light can be decomposed into different colors, and a complex sound wave can be decomposed into its partials. While the physics behind transverse and longitudinal waves is quite different and several theories have been developed to investigate the complexity of colors and timbres, we can try to model their structural similarities through the language of categories. Then, we consider color mixing and color transition in painting, comparing them with timbre superposition and timbre morphing in orchestration and computer music in light of bicategories and bigroupoids. Colors and timbres can be a probe to investigate some relevant aspects of visual and auditory perception jointly with thei…
