Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Health Behavior Change: A Contextually-Driven Approach.

2018

Promoting health behavior change presents an important challenge to theory and research in the field of health psychology. In this paper, we introduce a context-driven approach, the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) model which is built on Relational Frame Theory. The ACT-based intervention aims to promote individuals’ new health behavior patterns through the improvement of the key construct of psychological flexibility, which is defined as the ability to contact the present moment more fully with acceptance and mindfulness as a conscious human being. Building on the psychological flexibility model, implemented through the six core ACT processes, individuals improve maintenance of lon…

The association between muscle dysmorphia and eating disorder symptomatology: A systematic review and meta-analysis

2019

Background and aimsResearch shows inconsistent findings about the link between muscle dysmorphia (MD) and eating disorder (ED) symptomatology. The aim of this study is to synthesize the scientific evidence available on this topic, the researchers conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis.MethodsThe literature search enabled us to identify 39 published articles, which provided 36 independent estimations of the correlation between the two variables.ResultsOur analysis found a positive association between MD and ED symptoms (r+ = .36; 95% CI = 0.30, 0.41). Moderator analyses showed that the type of sample and the tools for assessing MD and ED were statistically associated with the MD–ED …

Body coloration and mechanisms of colour production in Archelosauria: the case of deirocheline turtles

2019

Animal body coloration is a complex trait resulting from the interplay of multiple mechanisms. While many studies address the functions of animal coloration, the mechanisms of colour production still remain unknown in most taxa. Here we compare reflectance spectra, cellular, ultra- and nano-structure of colour-producing elements, and pigment types in two freshwater turtles with contrasting courtship behaviour,Trachemys scriptaandPseudemys concinna. The two species differ in the distribution of pigment cell-types and in pigment diversity. We found xanthophores, melanocytes, abundant iridophores and dermal collagen fibres in stripes of both species. The yellow chin and forelimb stripes of bot…

Abstract Background Physical activity and dietary intake of dairy products are associated with improved metabolic health. Dairy products are rich with branched chain amino acids that are essential for energy production. To gain insight into the mechanisms underlying the benefit of the sub-chronic effects of running and intake of milk protein supplements, we studied L ow C apacity R unner rats (LCR), a rodent exercise model with risk for metabolic disorders. We especially focused on the role of Sirtuins, energy level dependent proteins that affect many cellular metabolic processes. Methods Forty-seven adult LCR female rats sedentary or running voluntarily in wheels were fed normal chow and g…

205th ENMC International Workshop: Pathology diagnosis of idiopathic inflammatory myopathies Part II 28-30 March 2014, Naarden, The Netherlands.

2015

The idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IM) are a heterogeneous group of diseases and diagnosis often necessitates a muscle biopsy. Five main entities are recognized: (1) dermatomyositis (DM); (2) polymyositis (PM); (3) necrotizing autoimmune myopathy (NAM); (4) sporadic inclusion body myositis (IBM); and (5) non-specific myositis. Other entities include granulomatous myopathy, macrophagic myofasciitis, and eosinophilic fasciitis (Shulman's syndrome). The pathological classification and subsequent identification of disease subgroups are extremely important for assessing treatment options and prognosis in the individual patient, yet classification criteria have not been standardized and vali…

Exosome levels in human body fluids: A tumor marker by themselves?

2016

Despite considerable research efforts, the finding of reliable tumor biomarkers remains challenging and unresolved. In recent years a novel diagnostic biomedical tool with high potential has been identified in extracellular nanovesicles or exosomes. They are released by the majority of the cells and contain detailed molecular information on the cell of origin including tumor hallmarks. Exosomes can be isolated from easy accessible body fluids, and most importantly, they can provide several biomarkers, with different levels of specificity. Recent clinical evidence shows that the levels of exosomes released into body fluids may themselves represent a predictive/diagnostic of tumors, discrimin…

Multicenter clinical trial of ultrasonic circular cyclo coagulation in patients with open-angle glaucoma: One year results

2014

International audience; Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the Ultrasonic Circular Cyclo Coagulation (UC3) procedure with one year of follow-up. Methods: Prospective non comparative interventional clinical study performed in 9 French glaucoma centers. Fifty-two eyes of 52 patients with open-angle glaucoma, intraocular pressure (IOP) > 21 mmHg, an average of 1.7 failed previous surgeries and an average of 3.7 hypotensive medications were insonified with a therapy probe comprising 6 piezoelectric transducers. The 6 transducers were activated, 24 patients (group 1) were treated with a 4 seconds exposure time for each shot and 28 patients (group 2) with a 6 seconds exposure time. C…

2021

The ECHR analyzes, through this judgment, a claim based on the violation of the rights to free elections and to an effective remedy, the origin of which is found in a series of alleged electoral irregularities. The national body that had to resolve this issue was not impartial, and the complaint procedure lacked adequate and sufficient guarantees

ANP and vasopressin -presence in the ciliary body of eye in the pig, (Sus domesticus)

2014

The aqueous humor is produced in the ciliary body so, in this study we investigate on the ANP presence and vasopressin in the ciliary body of the pig eye since these peptide are involved in the homeostasis of the body fluids. The results show ANP-presence in the epithelial cells and in the endothelial cells of the blood vessels and VP-presence in the epithelial cells, in the endothelium of canal of Schelmm and in the muscle cells of the blood vessels. These peptides might regulate the synthesis and the composition of the aqueous humor and regulate the hydrodynamic flow and haemodynamic flow of the blood.
