Type of surgery is associated with pain and walking difficulties among older people with previous hip fracture
2015
Aim The aim was to assess the level of lower body pain among people with previous femoral neck fracture, and whether the type of surgery was associated with pain and physical function a mean of 2 years after surgery. Methods The study included 115 community-dwelling older adults aged 60 years and older with previous femoral neck fracture, and 31 reference subjects without previous lower limb injuries. A total of 30 patients had internal fixation surgery, 70 had hemiarthroplasty and 15 had total hip replacement. All patients had surgery in the same hospital and received typical inpatient rehabilitation. From 1.6 months to 7.5 years after the fracture, the patients underwent examination inclu…
Adolescents’ physical, emotional and social balance: a concept of pedagogical assistance and social rehabilitation
2017
The paper summarizes research findings from two scientific fields (pedagogical and medical), which confirm that there are substantial discrepancies in an individuals’ biological, psychological and social development in the period of adolescence leading to a developmental imbalance mainly related to learning. The article offers for discussion a possible conceptual approach and practice-grounded changes of pedagogical provisions to improve teenagers’ physical, psycho-emotional balance and social rehabilitation culminating in overall well-being.

Anticipatory Postural Adjustments During Gait Initiation in Stroke Patients
2019
Prior to gait initiation (GI), anticipatory postural adjustments (GI-APA) are activated in order to reorganize posture, favorably for gait. In healthy subjects, the center of pressure (CoP) is displaced backward during GI-APA, bilaterally by reducing soleus activities and activating the tibialis anterior (TA) muscles, and laterally in the direction of the leading leg, by activating hip abductors. In post-stroke hemiparetic patients, TA, soleus and hip abductor activities are impaired on the paretic side. Reduction in non-affected triceps surae activity can also be observed. These may result in a decreased ability to execute GI-APA and to generate propulsion forces during step execution. A s…

"Table 6" of "Measurement of photon-jet transverse momentum correlations in 5.02 TeV Pb+Pb and $pp$ collisions with ATLAS"
2019
Selected comparisons of the nominal results in pp (blue) and 0-10% Pb+Pb (red) collisions with the central values obtained using a different photon-jet signal definition. Comparison of the nominal results (inclusive jet selection) with those obtained using a photon-plus-leading-jet selection for the pTg = 100-158 GeV range. Boxes indicate total systematic uncertainties, while vertical bars indicate statistical uncertainties.
"Table 3" of "Measurement of photon-jet transverse momentum correlations in 5.02 TeV Pb+Pb and $pp$ collisions with ATLAS"
2019
Photon-jet pT balance distributions (1/Ng)(dN/dxJg) in pp events (blue, reproduced on all panels) and Pb+Pb events (red) with each panel denoting a different centrality selection. These panels show results with pTg = 100-158 GeV. Total systematic uncertainties are shown as boxes, while statistical uncertainties are shown with vertical bars.
"Table 2" of "Measurement of photon-jet transverse momentum correlations in 5.02 TeV Pb+Pb and $pp$ collisions with ATLAS"
2019
Photon-jet pT balance distributions (1/Ng)(dN/dxJg) in pp events (blue, reproduced on all panels) and Pb+Pb events (red) with each panel denoting a different centrality selection. These panels show results with pTg = 79.6-100 GeV. Total systematic uncertainties are shown as boxes, while statistical uncertainties are shown with vertical bars.
