Metallic lead recovery from lead-acid battery paste by urea acetate dissolution and cementation on iron

2009

Abstract A suitable hydrometallurgical and environmentally friendly process was studied to replace the currently used practices for recycling lead-acid batteries via smelting. Metallic lead was recovered by cementation from industrial lead sludge solutions of urea acetate (200 to 500 g/L) using different types of metallic iron substrates (nails, shaving or powder) as reducing agents. Under specific operating conditions, up to 99.7% of lead acid battery paste, mainly composed of PbSO4, PbO2 and PbO·PbSO4 species, was converted to metallic lead.. The conversion of the metallic lead and rate of the cementation reaction were strictly dependent on the type of iron substrate used as the reductant…

Description of Hysteresis in Lithium Battery by Classical Preisach Model

2012

In this paper Preisach Model is applied to obtain a mathematical model of the hysteresis in lithium battery. Preisach Model allows to describe the hysteresis of charging and discharging cycles in a lithium battery. The identification of the model is obtained by using a neural network technique developed for magnetic systems. The model is verified on some experimental tests on commercial batteries.

Advanced Monitoring Systems Based on Battery-Less Asset Tracking Modules Energized through RF Wireless Power Transfer

2020

Asset tracking involving accurate location and transportation data is highly suited to wireless sensor networks (WSNs) featuring battery-less nodes that can be deployed in virtually any environment and require little or no maintenance. In response to the growing demand for advanced battery-less sensor tag solutions, this article presents a system for identifying and monitoring the speeds of assets in a WSN with battery-less tags that receive all their operating energy through radio frequency (RF) wireless power transfer (WPT) architecture, and a unique measurement approach to generate time-domain speed readouts. The assessment includes performance characteristics and key features of a syste…

Alakoulun opettajat motoriikan arvioijina

2015

Kuikka, Henna 2015. Alakoulun opettajat motoriikan arvioijina. Kasvatustieteen pro gradu –tutkielma. Jyväskylän yliopisto. Opettajankoulutuslaitos. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää, löytyvätkö opettajan arvioimana ne oppilaat, joilla on kehityksellisiä koordinaatiohäiriöitä eli motorisen oppimisen vaikeuksia ja kuinka luotettava Motoriikan havainnointilomake (MOQ-T) on tunnistettaessa niitä lapsia, joilla haasteita opettajan mukaan on havaittavissa. Tutkimus toteutettiin yhteistyössä Mukaan – liikun, opin, osallistun –tutkimushankkeen kanssa. Mukaan- liikun, opin, osallistun – hanke (2012 – 2014) toteutetaan yhteistyössä Suomen CP-liiton, Niilo Mäki Instituutin, Jyväskylän ylio…

Precipitation and Calcination of High-Capacity LiNiO2 Cathode Material for Lithium-Ion Batteries

2020

This article presents the electrochemical results that can be achieved for pure LiNiO2 cathode material prepared with a simple, low-cost, and efficient process. The results clarify the roles of the process parameters, precipitation temperature, and lithiation temperature in the performance of high-quality LiNiO2 cathode material. Ni(OH)2 with a spherical morphology was precipitated at different temperatures and mixed with LiOH to synthesize the LiNiO2 cathode material. The LiNiO2 calcination temperature was optimized to achieve a high initial discharge capacity of 231.7 mAh/g (0.1 C/2.6 V) with a first cycle efficiency of 91.3% and retaining a capacity of 135 mAh/g after 400 cycles. These a…

Correlation of aluminum doping and lithiation temperature with electrochemical performance of LiNi1-xAlxO2 cathode material

2022

Abstract This article presents a process for producing LiNi1-xAlxO2 (0 <  ×  < 0.05) cathode material with high capacity and enhanced cycle properties of 145 mAh/g after 600 cycles. The LiNi1-xAlxO2 (0 <  ×  < 0.05) cathode material is prepared by mixing coprecipitated Ni(OH)2 with LiOH and Al(OH)3, followed by lithiation at temperature range of 650–710 °C, after which any residual lithium from lithiation is washed from the particle surfaces. Electrochemical performance was studied within full-cell and half-cell application; in addition, different material characterization methods were carried out to explain structure changes when certain amount of aluminum is introduced in the …

Energy and environmental assessment of a traction lithium-ion battery pack for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles

2019

Abstract Traction batteries are a key factor in the environmental sustainability of electric mobility and, therefore, it is necessary to evaluate their environmental performance to allow a comprehensive sustainability assessment of electric mobility. This article presents an environmental assessment of a lithium-ion traction battery for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, characterized by a composite cathode material of lithium manganese oxide (LiMn2O4) and lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide Li(NixCoyMn1-x-y)O2. Composite cathode material is an emerging technology that promises to combine the merits of several active materials into a hybrid electrode to optimize performance and reduce cost…

The assessment of scales of frailty and physical performance improves prediction of major adverse cardiac events in older adults with acute coronary …

2019

Abstract Background The number of older adults admitted to hospital for acute coronary syndrome (ACS) has increased worldwide. The aim of this study was to determine which scale of frailty or physical performance provides incremental improvements in risk stratification of older adults after ACS. Methods A prospective cohort of 402 older (≥70 years) ACS patients were enrolled. Data about baseline characteristics, Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events (GRACE), and Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) risk scores were collected. Before hospital discharge, seven scales of frailty and physical performance were measured. The 1-year occurrence of adverse events (cardiac death, reinfarct…

An Initial Study of Alexithymia and Its Relationship With Cognitive Abilities Among Mild Cognitive Impairment, Mild Alzheimer's Disease, and Healthy …

2018

The present study examined the degree to which alexithymia is greater in mild Alzheimer's disease (AD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) relative to healthy volunteers (healthy comparison [HC]), and investigated relationships between alexithymia and cognition. Eighty-five participants (MCI = 30, AD = 21, HC = 34) underwent a comprehensive neuropsychological examination and completed the 20-item Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20). Relative to HC, MCI and AD reported greater alexithymia total scores and higher scores on the TAS factor difficulty in identifying feelings (DIF). The remaining two factors, difficulty in describing feelings (DDF) and externally oriented thinking showed no signif…
