Production of a 15C radioactive ion beam based on 18O(n, α)

In the context of the SPIRAL2 radioactive beam facility the production rate of the neutron-rich 15C nucleus by 18O(n,α) has been investigated. In a water target of 20 cm3, enriched in 18O and placed behind the neutron converter, a rate of a few 1010 nuclei per second can be reached with 1mA of 40MeV deuterons. A 18O(n,α) cross-section based on the activation method is proposed. It is intermediate between the highest and lowest evaluations available to date. peerReviewed
Evidence of Single State Dominance in the Two-Neutrino Double-β Decay of ^{82}Se with CUPID-0.

We report on the measurement of the two-neutrino double-β decay of ^{82}Se performed for the first time with cryogenic calorimeters, in the framework of the CUPID-0 experiment. With an exposure of 9.95 kg yr of Zn^{82}Se, we determine the two-neutrino double-β decay half-life of ^{82}Se with an unprecedented precision level, T_{1/2}^{2ν}=[8.60±0.03(stat) _{-0.13}^{+0.19}(syst)]×10^{19} yr. The very high signal-to-background ratio, along with the detailed reconstruction of the background sources allowed us to identify the single state dominance as the underlying mechanism of such a process, demonstrating that the higher state dominance hypothesis is disfavored at the level of 5.5σ.

Intramammary infections (IMI) are a complex of inflammatory diseases of the mammary gland. Mastitis is one of the most frequent IMI affecting small dairy ruminants. Direct selection against clinical mastitis is difficult because mastitis in not widely recorded; therefore, somatic cell count (SCC) is promoted as selection criterion for mastitis resistance. A dataset containing 2,457 first- lactation Valle del Belice ewes from 14 flocks recorded from 1998 to 2003 was analysed. In total 116 sires with at least four daughters with a record were included in the pedigree file. Test-day IMI events were coded as a binary trait using a SCC cut-off value of 750,000 cells/ml. Ultra-high temperature metamorphism recorded in Fe-rich olivine-bearing migmatite from the Khondalite Belt, North China Craton

International audience; We document the first occurrence of Fe‐rich olivine‐bearing migmatitic metapelite in the Khondalite Belt, North China Craton. Petrological analyses revealed two exotic assemblages of orthopyroxene+spinel+olivine and orthopyroxene+spinel+cordierite. Phase relation modelling suggests that these assemblages are diagnostic of ultra‐high temperature (UHT) metamorphism in the Fe‐rich system, with temperatures from 1,000 to 1,050°C at 0.6 GPa. U–Th–Pb SIMS analyses on zircon reveal a similar age of c. 1.92 Ga for the olivine‐bearing migmatite and an adjacent gabbronoritic intrusion that is therefore identified as the heat source for the UHT metamorphism.
