Discrepancy between individual and organizational values : occupational burnout and work engagement among white-collar workers
2013
Abstract This pilot study aimed to investigate the level of discrepancy between individual and organizational values, and assessed its impact on white-collar workers' job burnout and work engagement. The study examined the hypothesis that the better the fit between individual and organizational values, the higher the work engagement and the lower the risk of professional burnout. The modified Schwartz's typology of values, focusing on work related issues, was used as a framework for the study. Also, organizational level analysis was incorporated into the study questionnaire in order to capture the potential mismatch effect between the person and his or her work environment. A total of 480 w…
Effects of Including Sprints in One Weekly Low-Intensity Training Session During the Transition Period of Elite Cyclists
2020
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of including 30-s sprints in one weekly low-intensity training (LIT) session during a 3-week transition period in elite cyclists. Sixteen male elite cyclists (maximal oxygen uptake, VO2max: 72 ± 5 ml·kg−1·min−1) reduced their training load by ~60% for 3 weeks from the end of competitive season and performed only LIT or included 30-s sprints (SPR) in one weekly LIT-session. Performance and physiological capacities were evaluated during a prolonged (~2.5 h) test-session, including a strength test, a submaximal blood lactate profile test, an incremental test to exhaustion to determine VO2max, 1 h continuous cycling including four maximal…
Psihosociālo risku faktoru izvērtējums un tā pilnveides iespējas SIA “Stoller“
2017
Gender Equality and Maternal Burnout: A 40-Country Study
2022
International audience; In Western countries, recent decades have witnessed a revolution toward gender equality. Inequalities have been greatly reduced in areas such as education or employment. Because inequalities lead to distress, this development has largely benefited women. One notable exception is the realm of parenting, which has remained rife with inequalities even in the most egalitarian countries. We hypothesized that experiencing inequality in parenting when one holds egalitarian values and raising a child in a country characterized by a high level of gender equality in other areas, increases mothers’ psychological distress in the specific area of parenting. Multilevel modeling an…
Cross-hemispheric transport of central African biomass burning pollutants: implications for downwind ozone production
2010
Pollutant plumes with enhanced concentrations of trace gases and aerosols were observed over the southern coast of West Africa during August 2006 as part of the AMMA wet season field campaign. Plumes were observed both in the mid and upper troposphere. In this study we examined the origin of these pollutant plumes, and their potential to photochemically produce ozone (O3) downwind over the Atlantic Ocean. Their possible contribution to the Atlantic O3 maximum is also discussed. Runs using the BOLAM mesoscale model including biomass burning carbon monoxide (CO) tracers were used to confirm an origin from central African biomass burning fires. The…
Burnout syndrome among psychiatric trainees in 22 countries: Risk increased by long working hours, lack of supervision, and psychiatry not being firs…
2016
AbstractBackgroundPostgraduate medical trainees experience high rates of burnout, but evidence regarding psychiatric trainees is missing. We aim to determine burnout rates among psychiatric trainees, and identify individual, educational and work-related factors associated with severe burnout.MethodsIn an online survey psychiatric trainees from 22 countries were asked to complete the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI-GS) and provide information on individual, educational and work-related parameters. Linear mixed models were used to predict the MBI-GS scores, and a generalized linear mixed model to predict severe burnout.ResultsThis is the largest study on burnout and training conditions among p…
Modelling the optical properties of fresh biomass burning aerosol produced in a smoke chamber: results from the EFEU campaign
2007
A better characterisation of the optical properties of biomass burning aerosol as a function of the burning conditions is required in order to quantify their effects on climate and atmospheric chemistry. Controlled laboratory combustion experiments with different fuel types were carried out at the combustion facility of the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry (Mainz, Germany) as part of the "Impact of Vegetation Fires on the Composition and Circulation of the Atmosphere" (EFEU) project. The combustion conditions were monitored with concomitant CO2 and CO measurements. The mass scattering efficiencies of 8.9±0.2 m2 g…
Co-Development of Educational Aspirations and Academic Burnout from Adolescence to Adulthood in Finland
2017
The study followed 871 participants from age 17 to 25. Resources were related to lower cynical attitude towards studying and feelings of inadequacy, whereas demands were related to all three components of academic burnout. Family resources predicted higher educational aspirations. Co-development between educational aspirations and academic burnout showed that among those on the vocational track, the more exhaustion they felt, the higher their aspirations, which again increased their exhaustion. Among those on the academic track, the less cynicism they felt, the higher their aspirations which again decreased their cynicism. High aspirations positively and cynicism negatively predicted educat…
Teacher burnout explained : teacher-, student-, and organisation-level variables
2021
Understanding the factors related to teacher burnout helps in creating schools which foster teachers’ job satisfaction and the delivery of high-quality education. We studied teacher burnout and its three subdomains across several teacher-, student-, and organisation-level variables, including teacher category, class size, number of students with support needs, attitudes towards inclusive education, and availability of support. The participants were 4567 Finnish primary school teachers consisting of 2080 classroom teachers, 1744 subject teachers, 438 special-class and 305 resource room teachers. Several associations between teacher burnout and the background variables were observed and recom…
