2020
The fall of the wall is an event that sets a date and raises a symbolic watershed that separates the before from the after. The essay analyzes the Italian literary texts that were directly confronted with the events of 1989 by reviewing a period of time that goes from the day after the fall of the wall to the present day. From Fortini to Volponi, from Giudici to Arbasino, up to Lagioia, Affinati and Camilleri: for these writers talking about the Berlin Wall means reflecting on the crisis of ideologies, on the contradictions of history, on the relationship between literature and reality.

Antropologie del fuoco. Dalle teorie armchair alle verifiche sul campo
2012
Abstract. Inglese e Italiano Cross-cultural recurrence of fire symbolism with its apparent ambiguity, its multifarious patterns related to both myth and ritual, its evident relationship with other symbolic complexes (astral, axial, etc.) has been investigated by anthropologists, cultural and religious historians and psychoanalysts, producing a vast literature. In this essay we trace the essential outlines of these studies and try to provide the reasons of the affirmation and persistence of this symbol based firstly on experience. We further suggest to approach the study of symbols (in its various manifestations) as constitutive elements of complex semantic systems subject to a continuous pr…
Periodic volcanic degassing behavior: The Mount Etna example
2013
[1] In contrast to the seismic and infrasonic energy released from quiescent and erupting volcanoes, which have long been known to manifest episodes of highly periodic behavior, the spectral properties of volcanic gas flux time series remain poorly constrained, due to a previous lack of hightemporal resolution gas-sensing techniques. Here we report on SO2 flux measurements, performed on Mount Etna with a novel UV imaging technique of unprecedented sampling frequency (0.5Hz), which reveal, for the first time, a rapid periodic structure in degassing from this target. These gas flux modulations have considerable temporal variability in their characteristics and involve two period bands: 40–250…

(K)over-bar* mesons in dense matter
2010
We study the properties of (K) over bar* mesons in nuclear matter using a unitary approach in coupled channels within the framework of the local hidden gauge formalism and incorporating the (K) over bar pi decay channel in matter. The in-medium (K) over bar *N interaction accounts for Pauli blocking effects and incorporates the (K) over bar* self-energy in a self-consistent manner. We also obtain the (K) over bar* (off-shell) spectral function and analyze its behavior at finite density and momentum. At a normal nuclear matter density, the (K) over bar* meson feels a moderately attractive potential, while the (K) over bar* width becomes five times larger than in free space. We estimate the t…
Geografie del collasso. L'Antropocene in 9 parole chiave
2021
