Label swapper device for spectral amplitude coded optical packet networks monolithically integrated on InP
2011
In this paper the design, fabrication and experimental characterization of an spectral amplitude coded (SAC) optical label swapper monolithically integrated on Indium Phosphide (InP) is presented. The device has a footprint of 4.8x1.5 mm 2 and is able to perform label swapping operations required in SAC at a speed of 155 Mbps. The device was manufactured in InP using a multiple purpose generic integration scheme. Compared to previous SAC label swapper demonstrations, using discrete component assembly, this label swapper chip operates two order of magnitudes faster. © 2011 Optical Society of America.
Tuning optical/electrical properties of 2D/3D perovskite by the inclusion of aromatic cation
2018
The employment of bulky aliphatic cations in the manufacture of moisture-stable materials has triggered the development and application of 2D/3D perovskites as sensitizers in moisture-stable solar cells. Although it is true that the moisture stability increases, it is also true that the photovoltaic performance of 2D/3D PVK materials is severely limited owing to quantum and dielectric confinement effects. Accordingly, it is necessary the synthesis and deep optical characterization of materials with an adequate management of dielectric contrast between the layers. Here, we demonstrate the successful tuning of dielectric confinement by the inclusion of a conjugated molecule, as a bulky cation…
Giant Magnetoresistance (GMR) sensors for 0.35µm CMOS technology sub-mA current sensing
2014
This paper reports on the design and fabrication of microelectronic structures for non-invasive indirect electric current sensing at the IC level. A 0.35 ?m CMOS ASIC has been specifically developed for this purpose. Then, a low temperature post-process, fully compatible with the CMOS technology, has been applied for depositing Giant Magnetoresistive (GMR) sensors. Preliminary experimental results for obtaining the sensitivity of the devices are presented. The detection limit is estimated to be about 5 ?A.
Transient Electrical Behaviour of the TF Superconducting Coils of Divertor Tokamak Test Facility During a Fast Discharge
2022
The paper is focused on the electromagnetic analysis of the Toroidal Field (TF) superconducting coils of the Divertor Tokamak Test facility (DTT) when electrical transients occur in the TF coils system: for example, during the operations of the Fast Discharge Units (FDUs) and considering also, the simultaneous occurrence of a fault condition. During the FDU intervention, a transient voltage excitation lasting few microseconds occurs at the TF coil terminals and it electrically stresses the insulations of TF coils itsef. To investigate the voltage distribution across, inside and between different Double Pancakes (DPs) of each TF coil, a lumped parameters circuital model has been developed an…
Joan Robinson and Keynes: finance, relative prices and the monetary circuit.
2003
Joan Robinson's views on credit and money are discussed only rarely. Of late, however, some Post-Keynesians have sought to revive these views, claiming that Robinson was one of the original contributors to the theory of endogenous money, post Keynes. This paper has two objectives. First, it seeks to develop Robinson's views on credit, money and finance and to show that not only did she have a clear understanding of the theory of endogenous money, but that she also held views akin to the theory of the monetary circuit. Second, the paper addresses Robinson's dismissal of the problem of relative prices and the conventional theory of value. Once again, it shows that Robinson's position is conne…
Numerical simulation of the transient thermal-hydraulic behaviour of the ITER blanket cooling system under the draining operational procedure
2015
Abstract Within the framework of the research and development activities supported by the ITER Organization on the blanket system issues, an intense analysis campaign has been performed at the University of Palermo with the aim to investigate the thermal-hydraulic behaviour of the cooling system of a standard 20° sector of ITER blanket during the draining transient operational procedure. The analysis has been carried out following a theoretical-computational approach based on the finite volume method and adopting the RELAP5 system code. In a first phase, attention has been focused on the development and validation of the finite volume models of the cooling circuits of the most demanding mod…
Robotized semiautomatic motorcycle transmission development. Electronic and software design
2017
In this paper, we propose an electrical design (implemented on a PCB board) and an accompanying software design for controlling the automatic gear change. The designs complement the mechanical solutions developed in Part 1. The paper also analyses the issues encountered during the intermediate steps of the development of the electronic module, which is expected to be small and adaptable enough to be installed on a motorcycle without changing its ergonomics. The control software runs on the Arduino Nano board and is built as a state machine with one idle state, five active states that cover different stages of the gear change and one error state for preventing malfunctions in case of an unex…
Effects of three distinct protocols of fitness training on body composition, strength and blood lactate
2010
AIM: Circuit training is a very popular methodology in fitness program because it allows to join together cardiovascular and strength training. The purpose of this study was to determine the physiological effects of circuit training performed at different intensities on body composition, strength and blood lactate in middle-aged subjects who had recently undergone only minimum physical training. METHODS: Forty participants (aged 50-65) were assigned to a control group (CG) or to one of the three exercise treatment groups: Endurance Group (EG), Circuit-Low Intensity Group (CLG), Circuit-High Intensity Group (CHG). The three groups exercised three times per week, 50 min per session for 12 wk …
Electronic Design for a Bleeding Detector to be Used in Intraoperative Radiotherapy Applications
2021
An electronic design for a bleeding detector used with mobile linac during intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT) is presented. It consists on a readout circuit based on a De Sauty Bridge and a wireless power supply using a supercapacitor. The goal is the measurement of the height of fluid present in the applicator in order to avoid a misadministration dose during the irradiation process. A minimum measurement height of 5 mm is required by clinic to be confident with the selected radiation dose. The measurement circuit uses a capacitive sensor which detects variations lower than 0.1 pF. The readout circuit converts dynamic capacitance variation from the bleeding detector into an analog voltage …
Stability improvement of isolated multiple-output DC/DC converter using coupled inductors
2016
Coupling output inductors is a very popular solution when designing a multiple-output DC/DC system. Space-borne circuits are one of the areas where a custom DC/DC converter design with coupled inductors could be preferred to have a detailed design of all variables. Output voltage regulation can be improved using coupled output inductors on a multiple-output DC/DC converter, and, as demonstrated in this paper, it provides an enhanced stability. This paper presents the small signal analysis of a push-pull converter with seven outputs having all its output inductors coupled together and compares it theoretically to the uncoupled version to demonstrate the stability improvement. The theoretical…
