Diastereomeric control of enantioselectivity: evidence for metal cluster catalysis

2014

Enantioselective hydrogenation of tiglic acid effected by diastereomers of the general formula [(μ-H)2Ru3(μ3-S)(CO)7(μ-P–P*)] (P–P* = chiral Walphos diphosphine ligand) strongly supports catalysis by intact Ru3 clusters. A catalytic mechanism involving Ru3 clusters has been established by DFT calculations. peerReviewed

Selecting significant respondents from large audience datasets: The case of the World Hobbit Project

2016

International projects, online questionnaires, or data mining techniques now allow audience researchers to gather very large and complex datasets. But whilst data collection capacity is hugely growing, qualitative analysis, conversely, becomes increasingly difficult to conduct. In this paper, I suggest a strategy that might allow the researcher to manage this complexity. The World Hobbit Project dataset (36,109 cases), including answers to both closed and open-ended questions, was used for this purpose. The strategy proposed here is based on between-methods sequential triangulation, and tries to combine statistical techniques (k-means clustering) with textual analysis. K-means clustering pe…

Identification of international media events by spatial and temporal aggregation of RSS flows of newspapers

2013

The GEOMEDIA research project (ANR Corpus, 2013-2015) aims to elaborate an international observatory of media events, based on the collection of RSS flows sent by 100 newspapers of French and English languages. This contribution (1) describes the complexity of the information contained in RSS flows according to space, time and media dimensions; (2) derives basic solutions for the identification of international events on the basis of procedures of time aggregation; (3) analyzes the spatial interaction between countries through an analysis of co-quotations in RSS flows; (4) checks the existence of possible interactions between the two previous dimensions.

On Application-Layer DDoS Attack Detection in High-Speed Encrypted Networks

2016

Application-layer denial-of-service attacks have become a serious threat to modern high-speed computer networks and systems. Unlike network-layer attacks, application-layer attacks can be performed by using legitimate requests from legitimately connected network machines which makes these attacks undetectable for signature-based intrusion detection systems. Moreover, the attacks may utilize protocols that encrypt the data of network connections in the application layer making it even harder to detect attacker’s activity without decrypting users network traffic and violating their privacy. In this paper, we present a method which allows us to timely detect various applicationlayer attacks ag…

CLASSIFICATION OF EUROPEAN UNION COUNTRIES ACCORDING TO NATIONAL COMPETITIVENESS AND SOVEREIGN DEBT LEVELS

2013

National competitiveness is defined by World Economic Forum as "the set of institutions, policies, and factors that determine the level of productivity of a country". Therefore, the competitiveness of the European Union member states will be analyzed in the context of the governments' economic policies implemented in the previous period that had as main effects an increased public debt and an exposure of European Union to sovereign debt crisis. This paper attempts to examine how public debt takes its toll on the competitiveness of the EU member countries. So, the researchers will explore the strength of the connection between the percentage of public debt in GDP and the national competitive…

DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT USING CLUSTERING ALGORITHMS

2015

Document management systems are complex systems, which offer services as storage, versioning, metadata, security, as well as indexing and retrieval capabilities. Large numbers of documents could be automatically grouped into classes of documents, which contain similar information. Therefor we propose to use clustering methods in order to group the documents. Clustering is an important process in text mining used for groping documents based on their contents in order to extract knowledge. In this paper we will present some requirements for clustering algorithms for a document management system

Charge radii of exotic potassium isotopes challenge nuclear theory and the magic character of N = 32

2020

Nuclear charge radii are sensitive probes of different aspects of the nucleon-nucleon interaction and the bulk properties of nuclear matter; thus, they provide a stringent test and challenge for nuclear theory. The calcium region has been of particular interest, as experimental evidence has suggested a new magic number at $N = 32$ [1-3], while the unexpectedly large increases in the charge radii [4,5] open new questions about the evolution of nuclear size in neutron-rich systems. By combining the collinear resonance ionization spectroscopy method with $\beta$-decay detection, we were able to extend the charge radii measurement of potassium ($Z =19$) isotopes up to the exotic $^{52}$K ($t_{1…

FTIR matrix isolation and theoretical studies of glycolic acid dimers

2018

Glycolic acid (GA) dimers were studied in low temperature argon matrices by means of FTIR spectroscopy. Experimentally, the dimers were produced when monomeric glycolic acid molecules were thermally mobilized upon annealing of argon matrices at 25–35 K. The experimental spectra observed upon annealing indicate the presence of three different dimer structures. Computationally, MP2 and DFT calculations were used to study the potential dimer species in order to scrutinize the possible dimer structures, their energetics and their spectral features. Altogether 27 local minima were found for dimer structures for the three lowest conformers of glycolic acid considered based on previous studies on …

Ensemble deep clustering analysis for time window determination of event-related potentials

2023

Objective Cluster analysis of spatio-temporal event-related potential (ERP) data is a promising tool for exploring the measurement time window of ERPs. However, even after preprocessing, the remaining noise can result in uncertain cluster maps followed by unreliable time windows while clustering via conventional clustering methods. Methods We designed an ensemble deep clustering pipeline to determine a reliable time window for the ERP of interest from temporal concatenated grand average ERP data. The proposed pipeline includes semi-supervised deep clustering methods initialized by consensus clustering and unsupervised deep clustering methods with end-to-end architectures. Ensemble clusterin…

A Homoleptic Alkynyl‐Ligated [Au13Ag16L24]3‐ Cluster as a Catalytically Active Eight‐Electron Superatom

2021

A brand new alkynylated cluster [Au 13 Ag 16 (C 10 H 6 NO) 24 ] 3- is prepared by NaBH 4 mediated reduction method. The AuAg clusters are confirmed by various sophisticated characterization techniques. It manifested the unique metal framework of “Au center @Ag 12 @Au 12 Ag 4 ” is protected by 24 atypical alkyne ligands L (L = C 10 H 6 NO). The ligands were found to construct a unique type of motif L-(Ag)-Au-(Ag)-L at the cluster interface, where, the alkyne (C≡C) group of each L was linked by sharing an Au atom through the σ bonds and each C≡C group was discretely connected to chemically different Ag atom (Ag icosahedral /Ag cap ) through π bonds. The electronic and optical properties of [A…
