Artificial Urinary Sphincter Cuff Size Predicts Outcome in Male Patients Treated for Stress Incontinence: Results of a Large Central European Multice…
2019
Purpose The aim was to study the correlation between cuff size and outcome after implantation of an AMS 800 artificial urinary sphincter. Methods A total of 473 male patients with an AMS 800 sphincter implanted between 2012 and 2014 were analyzed in a retrospective multicenter cohort study performed as part of the Central European Debates on Male Incontinence (DOMINO) Project. Results Single cuffs were implanted in 54.5% and double cuffs in 45.5% of the patients. The cuffs used had a median circumference of 4.5 cm. Within a median follow of 18 months, urethral erosion occurred in 12.8% of the cases and was associated significantly more often with small cuff sizes (P<0.001). Multivariate ana…
Does adding a 12-month exercise programme to usual care after a rotator cuff repair effect disability and quality of life at 12 months? A randomized …
2013
Objective: To compare a 12-month home-based exercise programme with usual care for disability and health-related quality of life after rotator cuff repair. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Setting: Outpatient physical and rehabilitation medicine clinic. Subjects: Consecutive patients ( n = 67, mean age 54 years) who underwent rotator cuff repairs were randomized into an experimental group (EG) or a usual care group (UCG). Interventions: The UCG received ordinary postoperative instructions, while the EG were given advice and instructions on a shoulder muscle strengthening programme to be undertaken at home. Main measures: Disability was assessed with the American Shoulder and Elbow Surge…

Rehabilitation following injury of the rotator cuff
2003
The main aim of this paper is to compare two diffrent rehabilitation tecniques for treatment of the shoulder joint following injury of the rotator cuff. The seriousness of the pathology means patients generally have to endure a considerable period during wich use of the joint in question is impossible
The effectiveness of 12 months' intensive shoulder strength training on disability, health-related quality of life and shoulder function after rotato…
2017
This study examined the effectiveness of intensive shoulder strength training on disability, health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and shoulder function in patients who had undergone rotator cuff repair (RCR). In addition, the self- report section of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Standardized Assessment Form (ASES) was cross-culturally adapted to the Finnish language and the psychometric properties of the Finnish version were assessed. Patients with a rotator cuff tear (aged 41-62 years) were randomized into an exercise group (EG, n=35) or a usual care group (UCG, n=32) after RCR. Disability was assessed with ASES questionnaire and quality of life with Short- Form 36 Health Surv…
TECAR-TERAPIA NELLE TENDINOPATIE DELLA CUFFIA DEI ROTATORI:NOSTRA ESPERIENZA
2009
Association of Arthroscopically-Assisted Latissimus Dorsi Tendon Transfer with Implantation of a Subacromial Balloon Spacer for Patients with Irrepar…
2022
Purpose. Massive irreparable posterosuperior rotator cuff tears in an active population, resulting in a pseudo-paralytic shoulder, pose a challenge for the orthopaedic surgeon. In an effort to avoid or delay arthroplasty surgery, other surgical strategies such as arthroscopically-assisted latissimus dorsi transfer (aLDT) or the implantation of a subacromial spacer (SAS) can be considered. The aim of the present study is to associate, for the first time, these two surgical procedures in order to demonstrate the surgical feasibility and the effectiveness of their synergistic biomechanical effect. Methods. The study group consisted of patients who underwent aLDT for a massive irreparable poste…

Ultrasound-guided musculoskeletal interventional procedures around the shoulder
2021
Ultrasound is a fast, accessible, reliable, and radiation-free imaging modality routinely used to assess the soft tissues around the shoulder. It enables to identify a wide range of pathological conditions. Furthermore, most ultrasound-guided musculoskeletal interventional procedures around the shoulder produce better results in terms of accuracy and clinical efficacy than those performed in a blinded fashion. Indeed, intra-articular and peri-articular interventional procedures can be easily performed under continuous ultrasound monitoring to ensure the correct position of the needle and to deliver the medication to a specific target. Several technical approaches and medications can be used…
