Les systèmes éducatifs engendrent-ils des inégalités de bien-être ? : une recherche comparative internationale

2018

This study investigates the association between post-secondary education and well-being in international comparative perspective, conceptualizing well-being as a capability-informed measure of flourishing. Based on a combined human capital–capability approach, post-secondary education, operationalized as highest post-secondary educational credential, is hypothesized to relate positively with well-being net of individual-level and country-level controls at both the micro and macro levels of analysis. Prominent critiques of these approaches, suggesting indirect effects through occupational sorting at the individual level and economic factors at the country level, are also explored.Beyond thes…

The determinants of efficiency: the case of the Spanish industry

2002

The aim of this paper is to analyse the factors explaining the technical efficiency of Spanish industrial sectors during the period 1991–1994 using the Survey of Business Strategies (SBE) of the Ministry of Industry and Energy. It analyses whether efficiency can be explained by factors external to the firm such as the degree of competition in the markets in which it operates, characteristics of the firm (size, organization, advantages of location, participation of public capital, etc.), as well as the effects of dynamic disturbances that may affect the degree of utilization of the productive capacity.

A Wideband MIMO Channel Model Derived From the Geometric Elliptical Scattering Model

2006

In this paper, we present a reference model for a wideband multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel based on the geometric elliptical scattering model. The model takes into account the exact relationship between the angle of departure (AOD) and the angle of arrival (AOA). Based on this relationship, the statistical properties of the reference model are studied. Analytical solutions are presented for the three- dimensional (3D) space-time cross-correlation function (CCF), the temporal autocorrelation function (ACF), the 2D space CCF, and finally the frequency correlation function (FCF). The correlation properties are studied and visualized under the assumption of isotropic as well as no…

On the first- and second-order statistics of the capacity of N*Nakagami-m channels for applications in cooperative networks

2012

This article deals with the derivation and analysis of the statistical properties of the instantaneous channel capacitya of N*Nakagami-m channels, which has been recently introduced as a suitable stochastic model for multihop fading channels. We have derived exact analytical expressions for the probability density function (PDF), cumulative distribution function (CDF), level-crossing rate (LCR), and average duration of fades (ADF) of the instantaneous channel capacity of N*Nakagami-m channels. For large number of hops, we have studied the first-order statistics of the instantaneous channel capacity by assuming that the fading amplitude of the channel can approximately be modeled as a lognor…

Seismic evaluation of ordinary RC buildings retrofitted with externally bonded FRPs using a reliability-based approach

2020

International audience; Despite the extensive literature on reinforced concrete (RC) members retrofitted with fiberreinforced polymer (FRP) composites, few studies have employed a reliability-based approach to evaluate the seismic performance of RC buildings in terms of their collapse capacity and ductility. In this study, the performance of a poorly-confined RC building structure is investigated for different FRP retrofitting schemes using different configurations and combinations of wrapping and flange-bonded FRPs, as two well-established techniques. A nonlinear pushover analysis is then implemented with a computational reliability analysis based on Latin Hypercube Sampling (LHS) to deter…

Dual Capability EAM for Agility in Business Capability Building : A Systems Theoretical View

2021

Through two cases of IT-enabled business capability building in large enterprises, this paper elucidates how the systems theory approach can explain the enterprise architecture management (EAM) challenge to support business agility. The observation in both of these cases is that a legacy EAM approach does not adapt to a business development scenario involving agility. This leads to a study of the nature of the challenges in EAM when enabling strategic business moves involving new technologies, at the business unit level. For the type of projects as in these cases, we do not find a fitting paradigm in the EAM literature. Suggested solutions are IT bimodality, or Two Speed IT. However, its co…

Adaptive tuning system and parameter estimation of a digitally controlled boost converter with STM32

2019

. This paper proposes a diagnostic system of a power electronic converter, based on a cheap STM32 Nucleo board, aiming to extract some relevant measurements which gives back important values of the converter's parameters behavior. Moreover the designed system is also exploited for implementing the converter's auto tuning in order to optimize its dynamic performance.

Structural performances of pultruded GFRP emergency structures – Part 2: Full-scale experimental testing

2019

Abstract This paper presents an experimental testing of a pultruded glass fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) structure used for emergency applications continuing the discussion presented in a previous paper (part 1) where the study of the characteristics of material and elements are presented. First, the design of the composite structure and components and the evaluation of the structural behavior by means of numerical and analytical approach according to current regulatory codes are described. In this frame, the global and local response was observed according to load paths deriving from the design loads at limit states. Then, the experimental test on a full-scale 2D model is presented at diff…

Status of ceramic breeder pebble bed thermo-mechanics R&D and impact on breeder material mechanical strength

2012

Abstract Among the international fusion solid breeder blanket community, there exists steady progress on the experimental, phenomenological, and numerical characterizations of the pebble bed effective thermo physical and mechanical properties, and of thermomechanic state of the bed under prototypical operating conditions. This paper summarizes recent achievements in pebble bed thermomechanics that were carried out by members of the IEA Fusion Nuclear Technology Subtask I Solid Breeding Blanket. A major goal is on developing predictive capability while identifying a pre-conditioned equilibrium stress state that would warrant pebble bed integrity during operations. The paper reviews and synth…

The Effect of Process Evolution on Capability Study

1996

In today manufacturing scenario the trend to produce with lower and lower tolerance and continuously decrease the defectives rate seems to be irreversible. Then the evaluation of system performances is essential to determine if the process is able to respect our tolerances. With the classical approach this evaluation is realised by considering the process in the in control state and evaluating the capability indices and, consequently, the defectives rate. In this paper the evolution of the process is considered in terms of the mean out-of-control-time, and the real defective rate is evaluated by proposing a new capability index.
