Latvijas veselības aprūpes institūciju un personāla gatavība katastrofu pārvaldīšanā

Ievads: Pēdējo desmit gadu laikā pasaulē visu veidu katastrofu skaits ir ievērojami palielinājies, kā arī ievērojami ir pieaudzis cietušo cilvēku skaits. Līdz ar to slimnīcām un ārstiem jābūt gataviem risināt ārkārtas situācijas. Šis pētījums novērtē katastrofu pārvaldības sagatavotības līmeni Latvijas veselības aprūpes iestādēs un ārstu vidū. Some Critical Remarks on the Suitability of the Concept of the Photosynthetic Unit in Photosynthesis Research and Phytoplankton Ecology

Based on the classical definition of the photosynthetic unit after Emerson and Arnold, new definitions are presented and their consistency subjected to critical reflection. Modern molecular approaches to determine the physiological condition or even the efficiency of the photosynthetic machinery via determination of the magnitude of the photosynthetic unit are discussed against the background of new data on the dynamics of the thylakoid membrane.
Photosynthesis and transpiration of healthy and diseased spruce trees in the course of three vegetation periods

CO2- and H2O-gas exchange of 20- to 25-year-old spruce trees from a plantation in the Hunsruck mountains were investigated over a period of 3 years. All measurements were made as pair comparisons, i.e., in each case the gas exchange of a damaged tree and of a relatively healthy tree in its immediate vicinity was measured simultaneously. A second plantation in the Westerwald mountains consisted of 18-year-old apparently healthy spruce trees. Pair comparison at this location meant comparison of two healthylooking trees. Foreign Direct Investment Spillovers: Evidence from the British Retail Sector

This paper discusses the impact of foreign-ownership presence on the productivity performance of British-owned domestic retailers. In particular, we analyse the existence of productivity spillovers, in the form of knowledge transfer, by using establishment-level data from the Annual Respondents Database over the period 1997–2003. The results confirm the presence of such spillovers and highlight their positive and significant impact on the productivity of domestic firms, although these spillovers are mostly confined to the region in which foreign subsidiaries locate. International audience; This analysis proposes new measures of rent creation and rent sharing and assesses their impact on productivity on cross-country-industry panel data. We find first that: (1) anticompetitive product market regulations positively affect rent creation and (2) employment protection legislation boosts hourly wages, particularly for low-skill workers. However, we find no significant impact of this employment legislation on rent sharing, as the hourly wage increases are offset by a negative impact on hours worked. In this paper, we analyze a team trust game with coordinated Q1 punishment of the allocator by investors and where there is also a final stage of peer punishment. We study the effect of punishment on the reward and the investment decisions, when the effectiveness and cost of coordinated punishment depend on the number of investors adhering to this activity. The interaction takes place in an overlapping-generations model with heterogeneous preferences and incomplete information. A microeconometric analysis of the springboard subsidiary: The case of Spanish firms

Abstract This paper provides a microeconometric analysis of the distinctive characteristics of springboard subsidiaries that have a positive impact on the subsidiaries’ performance. Based on panel data estimations for subsidiaries of European multinational companies with a presence in Spain, the authors found that if the subsidiary is located in the springboard country, then the performance improvement (increase in profit margin) of the subsidiary is about 49 percentage points. The paper is focused on the analysis of the electrical energy sector in the Maltese islands, focusing on the employment of Renewable Energies in order to increase its energy independence.
