Contribution to the study of physico-chemical properties of surfaces modified by last treatment : application to the enhancement of localized corrosi…
2011
Metallic materials are more and more used in severe conditions with particularly strong request for improving their behavior in aggressive environment and especially over long periods. The objective of this PhD work is to estimate the potentiality of a laser surface melting treatment on the improvement of the stainless steel 304L corrosion resistance, surface treatments by laser can be revisited on the basis of a recent change in the laser technology. In the frame of this work, a nano-pulsed laser fiber was chosen : it allows the treated surface to be melted for few microns in depth, followed by an ultra-fast solidification occuring with cooling rates up to 1011 K/s. The combination of thes…
High-Density Genomic Characterization of Native Croatian Sheep Breeds
2022
A recent comprehensive genomic analysis based on 50K SNP profiles has shown that the regional Balkan sheep populations have considerable genetic overlap but are distinctly different from surrounding breeds. All eight Croatian sheep breeds were represented by a small number of individuals per breed. Here, we genotyped 220 individuals representing the native Croatian sheep breeds (Istrian Sheep, Krk Island Sheep, Cres Island Sheep, Rab Island Sheep, Lika Pramenka, Pag Island Sheep, Dalmatian Pramenka, Dubrovnik Sheep) and mouflon using the Ovine Infinium® HD SNP BeadChip (606,006 SNPs). In addition, we included publicly available Balkan Pramenka and other Mediterranean sheep breeds. Our analy…

Assessment of the ecotoxicity of phytotreatment substrate soil as landfill cover material for in-situ leachate management
2019
Phytotreatment capping in closed landfills is a promising, cost-effective, in situ option for sustainable leachate treatment and might be synergistically coupled with energy crops to produce renewable energy (e.g.: biodiesel or bioethanol). This study proposes to use 0.30 m of soil as growing substrate for plants cultivated on the temporary cover of closed landfills. Once the leachate phytotreatment process is no longer required, 0.70 m of the same soil would be added to attain the final top cover configuration. This solution would entail saving the costs of excavation and backfilling. However, worsening of the initial soil quality due to potential contaminant transfer from the liquid to th…
Compatibility between traditional ground layers and 3D printing materials
2018
Starting point of this work was the restoration of a Panel Painting depicting the Adoration of the Shepherds with a Saint Bishop, by an unknown author, stored in the Galleria Regionale della Sicilia di Palazzo Abatellis, in Palermo. It was decided to integrate a missing angular decorative element of the painting’s frame in order to restore the integrity of the frame by reverse engineering and 3D printing. Reintegration was feasible as the frame has a modular decorative pattern and the remaining three corners were available. Reverse engineering and 3D printing techniques have been used in order to find a solution according to the principles of recognition, reversibility and compatibility. Mo…
Structure and Deformations of Pd−Ni Core−Shell Nanoparticles
2005
International audience; Homogeneous collections of Pd−Ni core−shell nanoparticles have been prepared by decomposition of metal−organic compounds and studied by several electron microscopy techniques: transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), energy-filtered microscopy (EFTEM), and by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The physical and chemical properties of the Pd shell are supposed to depend on its electronic properties, which are influenced by the presence of the Ni core and by the deformation in the Pd lattice. Here, the interfacial structure of Pd/Ni and the lattice deformations in t…
DACRON© 360 WOVEN: EXPERIMENTAL CHARACTERIZATION AND COMPUTATIONAL ASPECTS
2010
In this paper a first experimental study on Dacron© 360 woven constitutive behavior is presented. This woven is widely adopted in sail manufacturing, it is obtained by weaving polyethylene terephthalate (PET) yarn and it shows some peculiar features due to its own manufacturing process. The experimental tests, in terms of tensile tests and cyclic tests, clearly show the orthotropy features of the material, its high strength and deformability. The examination with optical microscope of the tested specimen allows to evidence the interaction between warp and weft yarns. The obtained results represent a first step for the definition of a correct computational approach to such materials.
Uncertainty evaluation in power measurements with commercial data acquisition boards
2011
The paper deals with the metrological characterization of a digital wattmeter developed by using a personal computer, a shunt, two commercial data acquisition boards and commercial software. The uncertainty of the active power measurements is assessed individually characterizing the voltage channel, the current channel and the phase displacement measurement between the two channels. In particular, the uncertainty on the voltage and current rms measurements is evaluated by using an already proposed approach based on the Monte Carlo method and on the usage of five parameters, while the uncertainty on the phase angle is experimentally estimated. In order to validate the proposed approach for t…

Graph languages defined by systems of forbidden structures: A survey
1988
This paper deals with different ways of defining graph languages. These are the so-called forbidden structures. Some results on decision problems, their complexity, and set theoretic closure properties are scetched. A normal form, the minimal systems, are given. Finally the influence of the different kinds of forbidden structures on the descriptive power of the systems is shown.
