Efficient protocol for qubit initialization with a tunable environment

We propose an efficient qubit initialization protocol based on a dissipative environment that can be dynamically adjusted. Here the qubit is coupled to a thermal bath through a tunable harmonic oscillator. On-demand initialization is achieved by sweeping the oscillator rapidly into resonance with the qubit. This resonant coupling with the engineered environment induces fast relaxation to the ground state of the system, and a consecutive rapid sweep back to off resonance guarantees weak excess dissipation during quantum computations. AnABlast: Re-searching for Protein-Coding Sequences in Genomic Regions

AnABlast is a computational tool that highlights protein-coding regions within intergenic and intronic DNA sequences which escape detection by standard gene prediction algorithms. DNA sequences with small protein-coding genes or exons, complex intron-containing genes, or degenerated DNA fragments are efficiently targeted by AnABlast. Furthermore, this algorithm is particularly useful in detecting protein-coding sequences with nonsignificant homologs to sequences in databases. Hierarchical predictive coding has been identified as a possible unifying principle of brain function, and recent work in cognitive neuroscience has examined how it may be affected by age related changes. International audience; The lossless coding mode of the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) main profile that bypasses transform, quantization, and in-loop filters is described. Compared to the HEVC non-lossless coding mode, the HEVC lossless coding mode provides perfect fidelity and an average bit-rate reduction of 3.2%–13.2%. It also significantly outperforms the existing lossless compression solutions, such as JPEG2000 and JPEG-LS for images as well as WinRAR for data archiving. Comparative study of multi-2D, Full 3D and hybrid strategies for multi/hyperspectral image compression

In this paper, we investigate appropriate strategies for multi/hyperspectral image compression. In particular, we compare the classic multi-2D compression strategy and two different implementations of 3D strategies (Full 3D and hybrid). All strategies are combined with a PCA decorrelation stage to optimize performance. For multi-2D and hybrid strategies, we propose a weighted version of PCA. Finally, for consistent evaluation, we propose a larger comparison framework than the conventionally used PSNR. The results are significant and show the weaknesses and strengths of each strategy.

Abstract The conventional quantizer design based on average error minimization over a training set does not guarantee a good subjective behavior on individual images even if perceptual metrics are used. In this work a novel criterion for transform coder design is analyzed in depth.
