Implementering av elektroniske legemiddelkurven på et sykehus

2014

Masteroppgave i helse- og sosialinformatikk HSI 500 Universitetet i Agder 2014 Background: This rapport is a student project as a part of the final year program for master degree in Health and social Informatics at Agder University. The implementation of electronic prescribing systems in the health sector is a priority for both the public policy and for the management of hospitals. It is expected that such systems will increase the work capacity of the employees, improve information flow and reduce medication errors. Akershus University Hospital is the only hospital in Norway that has implemented an electronic prescribing system at the ward units. But implementation is seriously delayed com…

Learning to Read Equine Agency: Sense and Sensitivity at the Intersection of Scientific, Tacit and Situated Knowledges

2021

The aim of this essay is to address the challenges and problems in communicating with horses and interpreting their communication in everyday handling and training situations. We seek ways to learn more about equine communication and agency in the prevention of cruelty against animals and in enhancing animal welfare. We ask how it would be possible to learn to read the subtle signs of equine communication and agency in a sensible, sensitive, and ethical way to increase the health and wellbeing of horses that humans interact with. We have placed this theoretical examination in a multidisciplinary framework that consists of humananimal studies, feminist posthumanities, cultural and literary s…

A Focused Review of Language Use Preceding Death by Execution.

2018

Executions are one form of death that can be assumed to be maximally anxiety provoking. Words spoken by death row inmates moments before their execution can provide valuable insights into people's end-of-life communication needs and themes, conveying what individuals choose to express to others in the face of imminent death. In this focused review, we describe findings from quantitative and qualitative text analysis studies that have analyzed affective experiences and meaning-making attempts in transcriptions of actual statements made by Texas death row inmates. Overall, the most prevalent content themes identified in these final acts of verbal communication in the reviewed studies consiste…

The use of mobile technology for online shopping and entertainment among older adults in Finland

2017

Older adults use mobile devices for online shopping as often as younger adults.Mobile-based entertainment use is most typical for younger male adults.Older female adults use mobile-based entertainment least frequently.Age, household structure and high education predict mobile-based online shopping.Mobile-based entertainment use is best predicted by age and gender. Older adults are becoming an important market segment for all internet-based services, but few studies to date have considered older adults as online shoppers and users of entertainment media. Utilising the concept of life course, this article investigates the use of mobile technologies for online shopping and entertainment among …

The Role of the α Cell in the Pathogenesis of Diabetes: A World beyond the Mirror

2021

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is one of the most prevalent chronic metabolic disorders, and insulin has been placed at the epicentre of its pathophysiological basis. However, the involvement of impaired alpha (α) cell function has been recognized as playing an essential role in several diseases, since hyperglucagonemia has been evidenced in both Type 1 and T2DM. This phenomenon has been attributed to intra-islet defects, like modifications in pancreatic α cell mass or dysfunction in glucagon’s secretion. Emerging evidence has shown that chronic hyperglycaemia provokes changes in the Langerhans’ islets cytoarchitecture, including α cell hyperplasia, pancreatic beta (β) cell dedifferentiati…

Unshared binding sites for Bacillus thuringiensis Cry3Aa and Cry3Ca proteins in the weevil Cylas puncticollis (Brentidae)

2016

Bacillus thuringiensis Cry3Aa and Cry3Ca proteins have been reported to be toxic against the African sweetpotato pest Cylas puncticollis. In the present work, the binding sites of these proteins in C. puncticollis brush border vesicles suggest the occurrence of different binding sites, but only one of them is shared. Our results suggest that pest resistance mediated by alteration of the shared Cry-receptor binding site might not render both Cry proteins ineffective.

Expression, purification, crystallization and preliminary X-ray analysis of perakine reductase, a new member of the aldo-keto reductase enzyme superf…

2006

Perakine reductase (PR) is a novel member of the aldo-keto reductase enzyme superfamily from higher plants. PR from the plant Rauvolfia serpentina is involved in the biosynthesis of monoterpenoid indole alkaloids by performing NADPH-dependent reduction of perakine, yielding raucaffrinoline. However, PR can also reduce cinnamic aldehyde and some of its derivatives. After heterologous expression of a triple mutant of PR in Escherichia coli, crystals of the purified and methylated enzyme were obtained by the hanging-drop vapour-diffusion technique at 293 K with 100 mM sodium citrate pH 5.6 and 27% PEG 4000 as precipitant. Crystals belong to space group C222(1) and diffract to 2.0 A, with unit-…

Lack of "Synaptic" Ribbons in the Pineal Gland of BALB/c Mice

1988

In mammalian pinealocytes "synaptic" ribbons (SR) are regularly occurring organelles that are functionally poorly understood. Since in a number of studies on the mouse pineal gland the presence of SR has not been mentioned, it was the aim of this investigation to quantitate SR in mice. BALB/c mice were chosen, which have recently been shown to have a genetic defect for melatonin synthesis. The pineals of 15 mice killed at night, when SR numbers are normally high, were examined electron microscopically, scanning an area of greater than 20,000 micron 2 per gland. In none of these pineals were SR detected. It is concluded that the lack or extreme rarity of SR in laboratory mice may be related …

Resource Allocation and Computation Offloading for Multi-Access Edge Computing With Fronthaul and Backhaul Constraints

2021

Edge computing is able to provide proximity solutions for the future wireless network to accommodate different types of devices with various computing service demands. Meanwhile, in order to provide ubiquitous connectivities to massive devices over a relatively large area, densely deploying remote radio head (RRH) is considered as a cost-efficient solution. In this work, we consider a vertical and heterogeneous multi-access edge computing system. In the system, the RRHs are deployed for providing wireless access for the users and the edge node with computing capability can process the computation requests from the users. With the objective to minimize the total energy consumption for proces…
