A sequence motif enriched in regions bound by the Drosophila dosage compensation complex
2010
Abstract Background In Drosophila melanogaster, dosage compensation is mediated by the action of the dosage compensation complex (DCC). How the DCC recognizes the fly X chromosome is still poorly understood. Characteristic sequence signatures at all DCC binding sites have not hitherto been found. Results In this study, we compare the known binding sites of the DCC with oligonucleotide profiles that measure the specificity of the sequences of the D. melanogaster X chromosome. We show that the X chromosome regions bound by the DCC are enriched for a particular type of short, repetitive sequences. Their distribution suggests that these sequences contribute to chromosome recognition, the genera…

Mitigation of self-phase modulation by sinusoidally time varying phase
2018
The propagation of intense ultra-short optical pulses in a Kerr medium such as an optical fibre remains a critical issue for many optical systems. This is because the self-phase modulation (SPM) of the propagating pulse usually causes a severe broadening of the pulse spectrum that is typically accompanied by an oscillatory structure. Several strategies have been proposed and successfully deployed to counteract the deleterious effects of SPM in fiber-optic systems, including spatial or temporal scaling to reduce the impact of nonlinearity. Other approaches rely on the exploitation of the peculiar properties of parabolic shaped pulses and self-similar evolution. However, none of these last te…

Short-term caloric compensation ability in infants below 15 months old
2020
International audience; Background and aims In infancy, a too rapid weight gain is a risk factor associated with overweight. Growth is linked to the infant's ability to adjust energy intake depending on the energy density of foods. Evidence regarding the behavioral aspects of appetite control ability in infancy is sparse. The objective was to study the short-term energy adjustment ability of, first, exclusively milk fed infants before the onset of complementary feeding (CF) and, second, of infants at 11 mo and 15 mo. Methods Caloric compensation ability was assessed in infants by adapting a preload paradigm. Before CF, the ‘preload' was a feed with formula made more or less caloric by conce…
Prédire le passé et le futur : rôle des représentations motrices dans l'inférence du mouvement
2012
The effectiveness of the visual system is permitted by a complex processing network, which relies on cortical, sub-cortical and peripheral structures. The purpose of this research is to improve the knowledge of the process sustaining the visual perception of motion, and to produce a computational model able to reproduce the features of human visual tracking of a moving object. This work includes an extensive bibliographic research, and a series of experiments. The thesis consists of two parts:The first part pertains to the determination of performance in the "backward" inference of a partially visible movement. It consist of defining the involvement of exogenous information (retinal signals)…
Déni du travail et tyrannie des normes
2012
Based on the example of two quality processes deployed at the SNCF in the field of the service encounter, the aim of this article is to explore, from a clinical point of view, organizational mechanisms which encourage the denial of work. The norms of services previously defined contributed to the front office agents' denial of work, essentially because the respect of these norms became an ultimate finality. This situation has induced an "annoyed activity" (CLOT, 2009) among the front office agents, owing to the fact that the norms have been perceived as a hindrance to the accomplishment of a high-grade work. In the two previous practical examples, the reality (of work), the real work (in op…
