Suzukiʼs type characterizations of completeness for partial metric spaces and fixed points for partially ordered metric spaces

Abstract Recently, Suzuki [T. Suzuki, A generalized Banach contraction principle that characterizes metric completeness, Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 136 (2008) 1861–1869] proved a fixed point theorem that is a generalization of the Banach contraction principle and characterizes the metric completeness. In this paper we prove an analogous fixed point result for a self-mapping on a partial metric space or on a partially ordered metric space. Countably compact weakly Whyburn spaces

The weak Whyburn property is a generalization of the classical sequential property that was studied by many authors. A space X is weakly Whyburn if for every non-closed set \({A \subset X}\) there is a subset \({B \subset A}\) such that \({\overline{B} \setminus A}\) is a singleton. We prove that every countably compact Urysohn space of cardinality smaller than the continuum is weakly Whyburn and show that, consistently, the Urysohn assumption is essential. An implant-supported overdenture design with a horizontal path of insertion

The rehabilitation of the atrophic maxilla by means of implant-supported prostheses cannot always be achieved with fixed prostheses because of anatomic, esthetic, or economic issues, so for some patients the treatment of choice is a removable prosthesis. This article analyzes a new design for implant-supported overdentures with horizontal or faciolingual insertion. Its retention system is based on frictional forces or stepped interlocking horizontal surfaces and is appropriate for patients with skeletal Class II or III relationships with severe maxillary atrophies. On the Number of Closed Factors in a Word

A closed word (a.k.a. periodic-like word or complete first return) is a word whose longest border does not have internal occurrences, or, equivalently, whose longest repeated prefix is not right special. We investigate the structure of closed factors of words. We show that a word of length $n$ contains at least $n+1$ distinct closed factors, and characterize those words having exactly $n+1$ closed factors. Furthermore, we show that a word of length $n$ can contain $\Theta(n^{2})$ many distinct closed factors.
Scattering theory for a class of fermionic Pauli–Fierz models

Abstract The scattering theory for a class of fermionic Pauli–Fierz models is considered. We give a proof of the asymptotic completeness of the dynamics in the case of massive fermions. The result applied to the Hamiltonian of a quantized spin- 1 2 Dirac particle interacting with an external field through a cutoff Yukawa interaction and to the Hamiltonian of a system of finitely many confined particles coupled to a fermionic field with a quadratic interaction.

Predicting bond betas using macro-finance variables

We conduct in-sample and out-of-sample forecasting using the new approach of combining explanatory variables through complete subset regressions (CSR). We predict bond CAPM betas and bond returns conditioning on various macro-finance variables. We explore differences across long-term government bonds, investment grade corporate bonds, and high-yield corporate bonds. The CSR method performs well in predicting bond betas, especially in-sample, and, mainly high-yield bond betas when the focus is out-of-sample. Bond returns are less predictable than bond betas.

Abstract Background . Appropriate generator and lead selection as well as techniques of implantation are most important aspects of cardiac pacing in the extremely young patient.
