Special interpretation of formal measurement scales for the case of multiple heterogeneous properties
2001
A formal model of measurement is constructed and its components are outlined in this paper. An integrated hierarchical formal four-level structure which allows description of the multiple heterogeneous properties of a complex object under measurement is developed in order to have a uniform tool for the selection of specific scales for the measurement of these properties. A special treatment of a measurement scale defined on the space of the object states is offered, and corresponding structures of basic types of scales are explained permitting to take into consideration distances between relations on these states. Our approach can serve as the uniform formalised basis for development of mea…
A Differential Evolution Framework with Ensemble of Parameters and Strategies and Pool of Local Search Algorithms
2014
The file attached to this record is the author's final peer reviewed version. The publisher's final version can be found by following the DOI link. The ensemble structure is a computational intelligence supervised strategy consisting of a pool of multiple operators that compete among each other for being selected, and an adaptation mechanism that tends to reward the most successful operators. In this paper we extend the idea of the ensemble to multiple local search logics. In a memetic fashion, the search structure of an ensemble framework cooperatively/competitively optimizes the problem jointly with a pool of diverse local search algorithms. In this way, the algorithm progressively adapts…
Materials Communicating with the BIM: Aims and First Results of the McBIM Project
2019
This paper introduces McBIM, a French national research project working on on-line monitoring on concrete structure. This project gathers 3 french laboratories (the CRAN, LAAS and LIB) associated with one company (360SmartConnect/FINAO SAS) that are working together from 2018 to 2021. It proposes 1) to design a “communicating concrete”, made of concrete equipped with embedded low-energy wireless microsensor network, able to manage and exchange data using BIM standards, and 2) to demonstrate the usefulness of this approach across several building lifecycle phases, namely the manufacturing, construction and exploitation phases for structural health monitoring. The paper will first start by in…
Extraction of objects from structured backgrounds in the cat superior colliculus. Part II
1980
Specific changes occur in the cells of the uppers layers of the cat's superior colliculus when a two dimensional noise (background) is superimposed onto a deterministic signal (spot of light). Some of the measurements can be interpreted as meaning that some cells only react to certain relative movements of object (spot) and background (noise). The movement of the visual background is interpreted as environmental movement occurring due to the animal's own movement. The results of the measurements provide all the necessary presuppositions for a distinction between the animal's own velocity and that of the object (Part I). The experimental results can be interpreted with a model. The essential…
Editorial – Preface to the Special Issue on Numerical Techniques Meet with OR
2021
Abstract This special issue of the Foundations of Computing and Decision Sciences, titled ”Numerical Techniques Meet with OR”, is devoted to the numerical techniques and their applications in real-world phenomena. The special issue and its editorial present numerical algorithms as they meet with different research topics such as, e.g., from operational research, supply chain management, geometrical structures and Covid-19 effects on financial applications. Besides, the special issue covers instructional information about numerical techniques which are useful for OR research problems and real-world applications on such issues.
An affordable contactless security system access for restricted area
2016
International audience; We present in this paper a security system based on identity verification process and a low-cost smart camera , intended to avoid unauthorized access to restricted area. The Le2i laboratory has a longstanding experience in smart cameras implementation and design [1], for example in the case of real-time classical face detection [2] or human fall detection [3]. The principle of the system, fully thought and designed in our laboratory, is as follows: the allowed user presents a RFID card to the reader based on Odalid system [4]. The card ID, time and date of authorized access are checked using connection to an online server. In the same time, multi-modality identity ve…
Classification of SD-OCT volumes with multi pyramids, LBP and HOG descriptors: application to DME detections.
2016
This paper deals with the automated detection of Diabetic Macular Edema (DME) on Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) volumes. Our method considers a generic classification pipeline with preprocessing for noise removal and flattening of each B-Scan. Features such as Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) and Local Binary Patterns (LBP) are extracted and combined to create a set of different feature vectors which are fed to a linear-Support Vector Machines (SVM) Classifier. Experimental results show a promising sensitivity/specificity of 0.75/0.87 on a challenging dataset.
HD-RTI: an adaptive multi-light imaging approach for the quality assessment of manufactured surfaces
2021
International audience; Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) is a technique for estimating surface local angular reflectance from a set of stereo-photometric images captured with variable lighting directions. The digitization of this information fully fits into the industry 4.0 approach and makes it possible to characterize the visual properties of a surface. The proposed method, namely HD-RTI, is based on the coupling of RTI and HDR imaging techniques. This coupling is carried out adaptively according to the response at each angle of illumination. The proposed method is applied to five industrial samples which have high local variations of reflectivity because of their heterogeneity of…
Bimanual robot control for surface treatment tasks
2021
This work develops a method to perform surface treatment tasks using a bimanual robotic system, i.e. two robot arms cooperatively performing the task. In particular, one robot arm holds the workpiece while the other robot arm has the treatment tool attached to its end-effector. Moreover, the human user teleoperates all the six coordinates of the former robot arm and two coordinates of the latter robot arm, i.e. the teleoperator can move the treatment tool on the plane given by the workpiece surface. Furthermore, a force sensor attached to the treatment tool is used to automatically attain the desired pressure between the tool and the workpiece and to automatically keep the tool orientation …
Two View Line-Based Motion and Structure Estimation for Planar Scenes
2012
We present an algorithm for reconstruction of piece-wise planar scenes from only two views and based on minimum line correspondences. We first recover camera rotation by matching vanishing points based on the methods already exist in the literature and then recover the camera translation by searching among a family of hypothesized planes passing through one line. Unlike algorithms based on line segments, the presented algorithm does not require an overlap between two line segments or more that one line correspon- dence across more than two views to recover the translation and achieves the goal by exploiting photometric constraints of the surface around the line. Experimental results on real…
