Update on intravitreal anti-tumor necrosis factor alpha therapies for ocular disorders

2014

Abstract Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-?) is an important pro-inflammatory cytokine associated with a variety of ocular diseases. The currently available TNF-? inhibitors are etanercept, infliximab, adalimumab, golimumab, and certolizumab. Experimental and clinical studies on the intravitreal use of these agents have been reported with etanercept, infliximab, and adalimumab: etanercept has shown limited efficacy in scarce reports; infliximab has been associated with local safety concerns but appears to benefit certain cases; adalimumab has shown no efficacy in cases of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) or diabetic macular edema (DME), but the combination with bevacizumab may be effe…

Das Kiefergelenk bei entzündlichen, degenerativen und weichteilrheumatischen Erkrankungen

1991

Temporomandibular joint affections in rheumatic disease are described. They were seen in inflamed joint diseases, mostly in rheumatoid arthritis, and less so in juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, Reiter’s syndrome, ankylosing spondylitis, and collagen vascular disease.

Bindungsstudien mit Ulex Europaeus Agglutinin I (UEA-I) am Gefäßendothel der Synovialmembran*

2008

The lectin binding sites of the synovium of patients with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis were investigated. It was shown that Ulex europaeus agglutinin is a constant marker of the vascular endothelium and is not induced during the course of inflammatory process in rheumatoid arthritis.

A controlled trial of intra-articular corticosteroids with or without methotrexate in oligoarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis

2014

In contrast with the numerous controlled trials conducted in polyarticular or systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), little evidence-based information is available for oligoarticular JIA. As a result, the management of children with this subtype, which is the most prevalent in Western countries, is largely empiric. Intra-articular corticosteroid (IAC) injection is the therapy of first choice for oligoarthritis in many pediatric rheumatology centers. However, although IAC injections are usually highly efficacious, relapses of synovitis are common and sometimes occur only a few months after the procedure. It is still unclear whether concomitant administration of methotrexate (MTX) may …

Effect of nonsurgical periodontal treatment in patients with periodontitis and rheumatoid arthritis: a systematic review

2016

Background: Periodontitis has been regarded as a potential risk factor for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). A systematic review is made to determine whether nonsurgical periodontal treatment in patients with RA offers benefits in terms of the clinical activity and inflammatory markers of the disease. Material and Methods: A search was made of the Medline-PubMed, Cochrane, Embase and Scopus databases to identify studies on the relationship between the two disease processes, and especially on the effects of nonsurgical treatment in patients of this kind. The search was based on the following keywords: rheumatoid arthritis AND periodontitis (MeSH), rheumatoid arthritis AND periodontal treatment . Re…

Chromogenic detection of nerve agent mimics

2008

The current rise in international concern over criminal terrorist attacks via chemical warfare (CW) agents has resulted in an increasing interest in the detection of these lethal chemicals. Among CW species, nerve agents are extremely dangerous and their high toxicity and ease of production underscore the need to detect these deadly chemicals via quick and reliable procedures. A number of detection systems have been developed, most of them based on enzymatic and physical methodologies. However, these usually show limitations such as low selectivity, lack of portability and a certain complexity in their use. An alternative to these classical methods that has been gaining interest in recent y…

Non-conventional forms of HLA-B27 are expressed in spondyloarthritis joints and gut tissue

2016

Objectives Human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-B27 (B27) is the strongest genetic factor associated with development of Ankylosing Spondylitis and other spondyloarthropathies (SpA), yet the role it plays in disease pathogenesis remains unclear. We investigated the expression of potentially pathogenic non-conventional heavy chain forms (NC) of B27 in synovial and intestinal tissues obtained from SpA patients. We also determined the presence of NC-B27 in joints, lymphoid and gastrointestinal tissue from B27 transgenic (TG1) rats with M.tuberculosis-induced SpA. Methods Expression of NC-B27 in human SpA joints and gut and in (21-3 × 283-2)F1 HLA-B27/Huβ2m rat tissue was determined by immunohistochem…

Hüftgelenkssonographie bei Skelettdysplasien mit metaphysärer Beteiligung

1988

Skeletal dysplasias with metaphyseal involvement show radiological changes which permit their classification. There are, however, changes in the cartilage which could be demonstrated by hip sonography in two children, one with Stickler's syndrome and the other with metaphyseal chondrodysplasia. The dangers of mis-diagnosis are discussed.

A10.8 Evaluation of Disease Activity in Adult Patients with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

2013

Background Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is a disease which maintains specific childish rheumatological features during whole life. There is still an open discussion which criteria of the disease activity should be used for the management of adult patients with JIA. Objectives To analyse the usefulness of known disease activity and functional indices used in adult rheumatological practise for the assessment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and spondyloarthritidies (SpA): disease acitivity score (DAS), disease acitivity score 28 (DAS28), Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI), Bath Spondylitis Functional Index (BASFI), Health Assessment Questionnaire – disability index…
