Environmental Implications of Traffic Flow Delays: a Model for Urban Streets

2013

In this paper the problem of road's capacity is dealt in presence of perturbations of the vehicular flow. In particular, among the different disturbing causes, it is here considered the presence of vehicles parked along the road in relation to their parking activity. Having already established the delay, caused by those vehicles leaving their stationary positions and entering the traffic flow or by those who slow down the flow to park, it is possible to evaluate the changes in time running values. Related to these times delay, the extra pollutant emissions by a given urban running fleet is also evaluated, by utilizing emission factors depending on age, type, volume capacity and engine of th…

Practices of leisure and life projects among young students in Palermo

2011

Practices of leisure and life projects among young students in Palermo The recent sociological literature on leisure time has pointed out practices of leisure faceted and ambivalent that help to explain some of the main contradictions of modernity. (Lo Verde, 2009, 2011; Roberts, 2006). The interweaving between the practices for the self-realization and the practices characterized by collective and common uses of the leisure time puts in evidence the crucial role that in their structuring have the framework conditions in which social actors live. The existence of social contexts characterized – as already included by Eisenstadt (Eisenstadt, 1973) – by forms of de-differentiation makes more …

Gli Indigeni e la moneta. Rinvenimenti monetali e associazioni contestuali dai centri dell’entroterra siciliano

2012

The Sicilian hinterland and, in particular, the territory of the current province of Caltanissetta, during the archaeological investigations of the last sixty years, has returned a substantial monetary documentation. The analysis of these coins, conducted in parallel with that of the materials found in the relative archaeological contexts, has allowed us to draw significant considerations on the "monetary uses" of the anellenic populations of this part of Sicily. Despite, starting from the last twenty-five years of the fifth century a. C., coins spread more and more in this territory, it seems that these communities never fully understood the original structure of this exchange instrument a…

A bioweapon or a hoax? The link between distinct conspiracy beliefs about the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak and pandemic behavior

2020

During the coronavirus disease pandemic rising in 2020, governments and nongovernmental organizations across the globe have taken great efforts to curb the infection rate by promoting or legally prescribing behavior that can reduce the spread of the virus. At the same time, this pandemic has given rise to speculations and conspiracy theories. Conspiracy worldviews have been connected to refusal to trust science, the biomedical model of disease, and legal means of political engagement in previous research. In three studies from the United States ( N = 220; N = 288) and the UK ( N = 298), we went beyond this focus on a general conspiracy worldview and tested the idea that different forms of …

Resolving the Puzzle of Conspiracy Worldview and Political Activism: Belief in Secret Plots Decreases Normative but Increases Nonnormative Political …

2019

It is a hitherto open and debated question whether the belief in conspiracies increases or attenuates the willingness to engage in political action. In the present article, we tested the notion, whether (a) the relation between belief in conspiracies and general political engagement is curvilinear (inverted U-shaped) and (b) there may be opposing relations to normative versus nonnormative forms of political engagement. Two preregistered experiments ( N = 194, N = 402) support both propositions and show that the hypothetical adoption of a worldview that sees the world as governed by secret plots attenuates reported intentions to participate in normative, legal forms of political participati…

Indicators of improved learning contexts : a collaborative perspective on educational leadership

2015

The aim of this paper is to illustrate indicators for improved learning contexts based on the notion of collaborative leadership. Collaborative leadership refers to synergetic educational leadership practices through co-performance and a continuous and shared learning process. We argue that the indicators could serve as a bridge between education and the complex and increasing change within the social life and world of work. For finding the indicators, we combined two intertwining dimensions: ‘leadership in education’ and ‘education for leadership’. They were studied by a tested model describing collaborative leadership by a set of attributes. We then applied these attributes to a curriculu…

Interaction and use of technologies in teaching and learning processes

2020

SISTEMI DI COPERTURE INNOVATIVE NEI CONTESTI ANTICHI

2014

"Nice, refreshing, excellent that [it] is our corporate language" : a case study on self-efficacy and EFL in a Nordic online trading bank

2017

Englannin kielen merkitys suomalaisessa yhteiskunnassa on kasvanut viime vuosikymmenten aikana nopealla tahdilla. Nykyään englannin kielen osaaminen on edellytys työntekijälle.
