In this paper, a newly developed controller for active heave compensated offshore cranes is compared with state-of-the-art control methods. The comparison is divided into a numerical part on stability margins as well as operational windows and an experimental validation of the expected performance improvement based on a full-scale testing on site with a crane rated to 250 metric tons. Such a crane represents the typical target for the new control method using a combination of active and passive hydraulic actuation on the main winch. Abstract This paper represents the second part of the work described in the paper with the title “Decision-making tool for moving from 3-axes to 5-axes CNC machine-tool”. The problem of using either 3 axes CNC machine-tools or 5 axes CNC machine tools was presented in the first part, together with a fuzzy logic based decision support tool. This time, an AHP approach is used in order to evaluate the decision of moving to a manufacturing process based upon 5 axes machine tools. Three variants were taken into consideration and analysed. The consistency of the proposed approach was evaluated and a sensitivity analysis was also introduced.

Current distributed routing control algorithms for dynamic networks model networks using the time evolution of density at network edges, while the routing control algorithm ensures edge density to converge to a Wardrop equilibrium, which was characterized by an equal traffic density on all used paths. We rearrange the density model to recast the problem within the framework of mean-field games. A Fractional-Order Control Approach to Ramp Tracking with Memory-Efficient Implementation

We investigate the fractional-order (FO) control of arbitrary order LTI systems. We show that, for ramp tracking or input disturbance rejection, it is advantageous to include an FO integrator to the open-loop if we have to increase the order of integration further than one. With the lower phase-loss of the FO integrator it is easier to guarantee a desired phase margin. Furthermore the flat phase response around the crossover-frequency (iso-damping property) can be achieved for a wider frequency range such that the closed-loop is more robust wrt. amplitude and phase margins. Disturbance observer-based disturbance attenuation control for a class of stochastic systems

This paper studies a class of stochastic systems with multiple disturbances which include the disturbance with partially-known information and the white noise. A disturbance observer is constructed to estimate the disturbance with partially-known information, based on which, a disturbance observer-based disturbance attenuation control (DOBDAC) scheme is proposed by combining pole placement and linear matrix inequality (LMI) methods.

Vibration Control of a High-Speed Precision Servo Numerically Controlled Punching Press: Multidomain Simulation and Experiments

A three-degree-of-freedom mathematical vibration model of a high-speed punching press was developed in order to explore the vibration modes of the punching press. A multidomain model of the punching press was established to predict the kinematic state during different conditions, as well as the effects of load fluctuation on the motor speed. Experimental measurements of the acceleration of the punching press were carried out. The results comparison reveals that the multidomain model is consistent with the vibration model and the experimental measurements. Robust control for high performance induction motor drives based on partial state-feedback linearization

This paper deals with a robust input-output feedback linearization control technique for induction motors. Indeed, classic feedback linearization presents two main disadvantages: 1) the accuracy of the dynamic model; and 2) the corresponding correct knowledge of the model parameters. To address this issue, the linear controller has been substituted with a suitably controller designed to be robust to the variations of the main parameters of the induction motor, like stator and rotor resistances, and the three-phase magnetizing inductance.
