Fuzzy Variable Structure Control for Uncertain Systems with Disturbance
2012
Published version of an article from the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher:http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2012/105074 This paper focuses on the fuzzy variable structure control for uncertain systems with disturbance. Specifically, the fuzzy control is introduced to estimate the control disturbance, the switching control is included to compensate for the approximation error, and they possess the characteristic of simpleness in design and effectiveness in attenuating the control chattering. Some typical numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and advantage of the fuzzy variable structure controller proposed.
Landing gear suspension control through adaptive backstepping techniques with H∞ performance
2011
Author's version of a chapter published in the book: Proceedings of the 18th IFAC World Congress 2011. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.3182/20110828-6-IT-1002.00589 Landing gear suspension systems fulfill the tasks of absorbing the vertical energy of the touch-down as well as providing passenger and crew comfort with a smooth ground ride before take-off and after landing. They are also designed to have optimal performance in the case of a hard landing. In general, the tasks of aircraft landing gears are complex and sometimes lead to a number of contradictory requirements. Although there are existing modifications of aircraft shock absorbers to reduce the problem, …
Robust tool point control for offshore knuckle boom crane
2011
Author's version of a chapter in the book: Proceedings of the 18th IFAC World Congress 2011. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.3182/20110828-6-IT-1002.03004 This paper considers the design of an H∞ controller for tool point control of a hydraulically actuated knuckle boom crane. The paper describes the modelling of the crane's mechanical and hydraulic systems and a disturbance model. These are linearised and combined in a state-space model used for the controller design. The controller synthesis problem is to design (if possible) an admissible controller that solves the problem of robust regulation against step inputs with an H∞ constraint based on the internal mode…
Semi-decentralized strategies in structural vibration control
2011
Published version of an article published in the journal: Modeling, Identification and Control. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.4173/mic.2011.2.2 In this work, the main ideas involved in the design of overlapping and multi-overlapping controllers via the Inclusion Principle are discussed and illustrated in the context of the Structural Vibration Control of tall buildings under seismic excitation. A detailed theoretical background on the Inclusion Principle and the design of overlapping controllers is provided. Overlapping and multi-overlapping LQR controllers are designed for a simplied five-story building model. Numerical simulations are conducted to asses the pe…
Effectiveness of pre-anaesthetic assessment clinic: a systematic review of randomised and non-randomised prospective controlled studies
2022
ObjectivesThe aim of this systematic review was to examine the effectiveness of pre-anaesthesia assessment clinics (PACs) in improving the quality and safety of perioperative patient care.DesignSystematic review.Data sourcesThe electronic databases CINAHL Plus with Full Text (EBSCOhost), Medline and Embase (OvidSP) were systematically searched on 11 September 2018 and updated on 3 February 2020 and 4 February 2021.Eligibility criteriaThe inclusion criteria for this study were studies published in English or Scandinavian language and scientific original research that included randomised or non-randomised prospective controlled studies. Additionally, studies that reported the outcomes from a …
Mixed l-/l1 fault detection observer design for positive switched systems with time-varying delay via delta operator approach
2014
Published version of an article in the journal: International Journal of Control, Automation and Systems. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s12555-013-0466-1 This paper investigates the problem of fault detection observer design for positive switched systems with time-varying delay via delta operator approach. A new fault sensitivity measure, called l-index, is proposed. The l- fault detection observer design and multi-objective l -/l1 fault detection observer design problems are addressed. Based on the average dwell time approach and the piecewise copositive type Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional method in delta domain, sufficient conditions for the existence of …
Motion control with optimal nonlinear damping: from theory to experiment
2022
Optimal nonlinear damping control was recently introduced for the second-order SISO systems, showing some advantages over a classical PD feedback controller. This paper summarizes the main theoretical developments and properties of the optimal nonlinear damping controller and demonstrates, for the first time, its practical experimental evaluation. An extended analysis and application to more realistic (than solely the double-integrator) motion systems are also given in the theoretical part of the paper. As comparative linear feedback controller, a PD one is taken, with the single tunable gain and direct compensation of the plant time constant. The second, namely experimental, part of the pa…
Analysis of relay-based feedback compensation of Coulomb friction
2022
Standard problem of one-degree-of-freedom mechanical systems with Coulomb friction is revised for a relay-based feedback stabilization. It is recalled that such a system with Coulomb friction is asymptotically stabilizable via a relay-based output feedback, as formerly shown in [1]. Assuming an upper bounded Coulomb friction disturbance, a time-optimal gain of the relay-based feedback control is found by minimizing the derivative of the Lyapunov function proposed in [2] for the twisting algorithm. Furthermore, changing from the discontinuous Coulomb friction to a more physical discontinuity-free one, which implies a transient presliding phase at motion reversals, we analyze the residual ste…
Robust adaptive backstepping DP control of ROVs
2022
Dynamic positioning is an important control feature for an underwater remotely operated vehicle. This paper presents a nonlinear dynamic positioning controller suited for application to vehicles with model uncertainties, operating in environments with unpredictable disturbances, such as an aquaculture net cage. The proposed controller combines the backstepping approach with an adaptation term to ensure robustness. Using Lyapunov theory and Matrosov’s theorem the origin of the closed-loop system is proven to be: (i) globally asymptotically stable when assuming persistency of excitation, and (ii) stable and bounded, with the true position converging to the desired position if there is no pers…
Characterization of field isolates of Trichoderma antagonistic against Rhizoctonia solani.
2010
The aim of the present study was to characterize sixteen isolates of Trichoderma originating from a field of sugar beet where disease patches caused by Rhizoctonia solani were observed. Use of both molecular and morphological characteristics gave consistent identification of the isolates. Production of water-soluble and volatile inhibitors, mycoparasitism and induced systemic resistance in plant host were investigated using in vitro and in vivo tests in both sterilized and natural soils. This functional approach revealed the intra-specific diversity as well as biocontrol potential of the different isolates. Different antagonistic mechanisms were evident for different strains. The most antag…
