On the Stability of the Soft Pendulum With Affine Curvature: Open-Loop, Collocated Closed-Loop, and Switching Control

This letter investigates the stability properties of the soft inverted pendulum with affine curvature - a template model for nonlinear control of underactuated soft robots. We look at how changes in physical parameters affect stability and equilibrium. We give conditions under which zero dynamics corresponding to a collocated choice of the output is (locally or globally) stable or unstable. We leverage these results to design a switching controller that stabilizes a class of nonlinear equilibria of the pendulum, which can drive the system from one equilibrium to another.

Najstarszą i najdłużej działająca instytucją kontrolującą media w komunistycznej Polsce była cenzura wojskowa powstała pod koniec II wojny światowej. Służba ta zorganizowana była na wzór cenzury sowieckiej i pod kierownictwem oficerów sowieckiego wywiadu wojskowego – GRU. Cenzorzy wojskowy kontrolowali oprócz wydawnictw wojskowych również media cywilne. Specjalny Wydział Wojskowy funkcjonujący w strukturach cywilnej cenzury – Główny Urząd Kontroli Prasy, Publikacji i Widowisk, odpowiadał za ochronę tajemnicy wojskowej i szkolenie cenzorów cywilnych w zakresie obronności. Casting Robotic end-effectors to reach far objects in space and planetary missions

In this paper we present work aimed at developing a compact robotic device able to reach objects at far distance.The work is based on the idea of casting manipulation, and that allows to deploy an end-effector at large distances from the robot’s base by throwing (casting) it and controlling its ballistic flightusing forces transmitted through a light tether connected to the end-effector itself.

Prevention of injuries among youth team sports : the role of decreased movement control as a risk factor

Good movement control is essential in team sports that require fast-paced running, pivoting, jumping and landing. Alterations in dynamic neuromuscular control may cause significant stress on the musculoskeletal system, and increase the risk of both acute and overuse injuries. The purpose of this dissertation was to investigate the effectiveness of interventions to prevent sports injuries, the incidence and severity of overuse injuries, and the role of decreased movement control as a risk factor for future injuries in young team sports athletes. Ski jumping takeoff in a wind tunnel with skis.

The effect of skis on the force–time characteristics of the simulated ski jumping takeoff was examined in a wind tunnel. Takeoff forces were recorded with a force plate installed under the tunnel floor. Signals from the front and rear parts of the force plate were collected separately to examine the anteroposterior balance of the jumpers during the takeoff. Two ski jumpers performed simulated takeoffs, first without skis in nonwind conditions and in various wind conditions. Thereafter, the same experiments were repeated with skis. The effects of antimicrobial sprays and mouthrinses on supragingival plaque regrowth: a comparative study.

BACKGROUND: Due to the side effects of chlorhexidine digluconate (CHX) mouthrinsing, a spray has been proposed as an alternative method of CHX delivery to the oral cavity. The aim of this study was to investigate the plaque inhibitory effects of CHX, cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC), and triclosan (TRN) delivered by sprays and mouthrinses. METHODS: The study was an observer-masked, randomized cross-over design balanced for carryover effects, involving 15 healthy volunteers in a 4-day plaque regrowth model.
