Event-by-event picture for the medium-induced jet evolution

We discuss the evolution of an energetic jet which propagates through a dense quark-gluon plasma and radiates gluons due to its interactions with the medium. Within perturbative QCD, this evolution can be described as a stochastic branching process, that we have managed to solve exactly. We present exact, analytic, results for the gluon spectrum (the average gluon distribution) and for the higher n-point functions, which describe correlations and fluctuations. Using these results, we construct the event-by-event picture of the gluon distribution produced via medium-induced gluon branching. Mutation Analysis of LMX1B Gene in Nail-Patella Syndrome Patients

SummaryNail-patella syndrome (NPS), a pleiotropic disorder exhibiting autosomal dominant inheritance, has been studied for >100 years. Recent evidence shows that NPS is the result of mutations in the LIM-homeodomain gene LMX1B. To determine whether specific LMX1B mutations are associated with different aspects of the NPS phenotype, we screened a cohort of 41 NPS families for LMX1B mutations. A total of 25 mutations were identified in 37 families. The nature of the mutations supports the hypothesis that NPS is the result of haploinsufficiency for LMX1B. There was no evidence of correlation between aspects of the NPS phenotype and specific mutations.

In this paper I analyzed the convergence between Romanian and Euro Zone`s business cycles using a Switching approach. Considering the evolution of final consumption expenditure as proxy for the business cycles, the underlying study is calibrated on the second key feature of Burns and Mitchell`s (1946) definition about business cycles, namely the cycles are divided and also treated differently for cases of expansionary and downward regimes. This thesis focuses on two separate topics. The first topic concerns the upgrade of the Time Projection Chamber (TPC) detector of the ALICE experiment. The upgrade will take place during the second Long Shutdown (2019-2020). The part of the upgrade I participated in was the replacement of the detector’s current readout electronics with Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) foils. This change would allow for the continuous readout of the data, resulting in a hundredfold increase in the amount of data the ALICE experiment can process, as the TPC is the central tracking detector. In high-energy collisions, the spatio-temporal size of the particle production region can be measured using the Bose-Einstein correlations of identical bosons at low relative momentum. The source radii are typically extracted using two-pion correlations, and characterize the system at the last stage of interaction, called kinetic freeze-out. In low-multiplicity collisions, unlike in high-multiplicity collisions, two-pion correlations are substantially altered by background correlations, e.g. mini-jets. International audience; Image correlation methods are widely used in experimental mechanics to obtain displacement field measurements. Currently, these methods are applied using digital images of the initial and deformed surfaces sprayed with black or white paint. Speckle patterns are then captured and the correlation is performed with a high degree of accuracy to an order of 0.01 pixels. In 3D, however, stereo-correlation leads to a lower degree of accuracy.
